That's very interesting. I guess you'd got a good taste of the cashless society on your last trip to China. 
I like the credit(debit) card system prevalent here in the U.S.; I'd rather have a bank worry about my everyday purchase transactions than to keep track of them myself.
Incidentally, I read this NYT article that talks about Amazon Go ... Wonder if it'll ever catch on?

Yes, you guessed it! I had a few awkward experiences during my vacation there last October. It's amazing how quickly the mobile payment modes can transform China from a primarily cash-based society into a cashless-based society, despite the potential security and privacy issues. But practically, life could be somewhat difficult in metropolitan areas if you’re not willing to turn your mobile phone into a digital wallet using app, like Alipay or WeChat.

有人在翻译问题上做文章，说翻译翻错了，不应该译为“消灭私有制”，应该译为“扬弃私有制”，意思是私有制是消灭不了的，必需吸收其精华，抛弃不合理的东西。为什么不能消灭私有制?他们语焉不详了，大体上还是人的本性是自私的、私有制符合人的自私本性那一套。不过由于打着学术的旗号，还颇能唬人。对此，我国著名翻译家、理论家、原中央编译局副局长顾锦屏同志专门撰文予以批驳。他从多方面论证，译为“消灭私有制”是符合原意的，完全正确的。这些人想为私有制辩护，就说自己的思想。把自己的思想强加到马克思、恩格斯头上，拉大旗当虎皮，这种做法实在是令人不齿。
