Trying to translate "据傳"

...

Anyway, a rumor is just a rumor. As a matter of fact, there is NO such a thing as "慈禧太后御筆蓮花圖" in 竹園精舍 according to a 住持法师 of the temple who resided in 竹園精舍 for nearly five decades.

　　一九三五年，請慈航法師到精舍去講佛學三年，當時港九各寺門住持，都派比丘尼及和尚參加，培養了一批著名法師。

　　門額是鄒魯所書「竹園」兩字，門旁有太史公吳道鎔所寫門聯：「竹杖偶雲遊，願度眾生皈正覺；園花同墜，拈來一笑悟真如」。

　　竹園精舍有一幅中堂蓮花圖。這一朵蓮花，並非平常畫家所畫，是慈禧太后御筆所寫，畫上蓋有慈大后玉璽，是鎮山之寶。　

　　精舍內供奉三寶佛和觀音菩薩，由比丘尼主其事。

据傳香港淪陷時期，日軍佔領大嶼山，當時日軍經過竹園精舍時，連行路都不敢用力踏腳上的皮靴，靜悄悄便走過，更加不敢入去騷擾，故此精舍未遭破壞，那幅鎮山之寶的慈禧太后御筆蓮花圖亦得以保存。

是的，站在曹营看汉营，那是一种十分奇特、复杂、难以言表的感受。不久之后，我来到美国。看到电视实况转播围墙两边的人们一锤一锤地把那墙凿开，然后融合在一起狂欢，那时我的感受就更不寻常。如果未曾到过现场，看电视转播时心情就会有所不同。
