As a dedicated professional member of Proz.com, I would like to propose the introduction of a Proz.com MasterCard specifically designed for our community of translators and language professionals. This initiative would allow members to access and utilize their Proz money more flexibly and conveniently.

Currently, many members earn and accumulate funds through various projects and collaborations on the platform. However, the ability to use these funds directly for personal or professional expenses is limited. By creating a MasterCard linked to the Proz.com account, members would gain immediate access to their earnings, enabling them to make purchases, pay for services, or even withdraw cash at ATMs.
This card could also enhance the overall member experience by providing a practical solution for managing finances within the Proz ecosystem. It would allow for seamless transactions and empower members to reinvest in their professional development, whether through purchasing resources, attending conferences, or acquiring tools to enhance their translation services.
Moreover, the introduction of a Proz MasterCard would reinforce the sense of community and support among members, as we would have a tangible way to utilize the platform's resources. I believe this innovative step would not only benefit individual members but also strengthen the Proz.com brand as a leader in supporting the translation and language industry.
I appreciate your consideration of this proposal and look forward to discussing it further with the Proz.com team.

I'm sorry, but I don't see any sense in this proposal. My clients can send the payments directly to my PayPal or bank account. I'm fairly certain this is how most of us run our businesses.
ProZ.com would also need to allocate resources to issue the cards and maintain this feature. They're better off fixing the bugs that have been plaguing this website for so long. I'm still not receiving email notifications for projects posted on the job board, by the way.

Dear Novian,
Thank you for your feedback regarding my proposal for the ProzCard. I appreciate your perspective, but I would like to highlight some important points that may clarify the need for such a service, especially for freelancers in regions with limited access to conventional payment methods.

In Afghanistan, for example, many professionals are unable to use PayPal or other similar platforms due to restrictions and local banking regulations. This presents a significant barrier for us in receiving payments efficiently and securely. A ProzCard would provide a viable alternative, allowing us to manage transactions more effectively, regardless of regional limitations.
Furthermore, the implementation of a payment solution like ProzCard could enhance the financial security and convenience for many members, particularly in underserved regions. While I understand the need for resource allocation towards improving existing features, I believe that investing in a solution that broadens access and inclusivity could ultimately benefit a diverse membership base.
Thank you for considering this perspective. I hope we can continue to discuss ways to support all members, regardless of their geographical challenges. ▲ Collapse | | | Novian Cahyadi Indonesia Local time: 12:34 Member (Apr 2024) English to Indonesian
Can't you receive payments via ProZ*Pay, and then withdraw them to your bank account? It's true that freelance translators in some countries are prohibited from using this feature. But last time I checked, Afghanistan wasn't on the blacklist.

My understanding is that you are proposing a ProZ-branded Mastercard credit card, (Mastercard calls this co-branding).
Here is a page that has information on Mastercard's approach to co-branded cards.
https://sea.mastercard.com/en-region-sea/business/merchants/grow-your-business/co-branded-cards.html
By looking through the various pages, it doesn't seem that ProZ, as a company would be a good fit for this, or would even be able to do this.
I have multiple types of branded credit cards (both Visa and Mastercard), in all cases, the brands are major merchants, who themselves sell products/services to consumers (that's their main business), and the branded cards offer loyalty benefits (miles, cashback, points, etc.)
ProZ is a platform to connect outsourcers and freelancers, and I think the vast majority of the financial part of the transactions between these parties are conducted outside of ProZ. ProZ itself accepts payments for membership fees and advertising, they are not selling large volumes of goods or services. So I don't see how a ProZ/branded credit card would be practical, or even possible.
Even if there was one, why would anyone get it when a more generic card, such as an Amazon Visa card or an airline miles card is much more practical to use? There isn't much to spend loyalty points on ProZ, aside from membership, so imagine that you get that card, use it as your regular credit card all year, accumulate a bunch of points and then you can't "spend" it.
Again, maybe I am misunderstanding your proposal. ▲ Collapse
When it comes to regions with limited access to conventional payment systems based on USD and/or EUR, isn't it then the case where crypto currencies are supposed to step in when you still have at least an Internet connection and when you are customer of a financial institution that offers online banking? Or are those currencies only invented for investment reasons, without any practical purpose for everyday life, just to feed a huge bubble that will burst one day?
First of all, I have no idea how these things work, but perspectives matter.
For us living in countries with services that work, reasonably reliable banking systems, a high GDP and the freedom for men and women to trade internationally and even buy from Amazon at the other end of the world if so we wish, this card would just be another means of payment among many others that are better, quicker, cheaper, etc.
No point.

If there is a "niche" need in regions where simple international banking that we all take for granted is restricted, unreliable, prohibited or otherwise under-developed, perhaps it makes sense. But implementing such a system, if this is to cater for a low headcount of translators and low volumes of dosh, might require too large a dose of philanthropy for the expected return.
