I’m spending no time at all working; I haven’t had a single project this fortnight: just a few emails from potential clients looking for cheap translators and a lot of CVs from translators looking for jobs…

Any chance of posting non pandemic-/virus-/Covid-19-related polls, for a change, given that we are already being bombarded 24/7 with those?

Due to two reasons: a decrease in workload and homeschooling my two children in primary school age. The first factor fit the second one quite nicely (with weekend work), but now school holidays are starting and the decrease in assignments is even getting worse. So I think I'll spend the coming weeks on revamping my website and LinkedIn profile and doing some MOOCs that I didn't had the opportunity for before.

My position is similar to Teresa's. Whilst I can't claim to have had no work, the couple projects I have had have been very small and have taken very little of my time. Although I can't say for certain that the explanation is Coronavirus it seems highly plausible. Like Teresa I have also had emails from potential clients looking for translators in the hard discount sector of the market.

More, kind of Apr 24, 2020

I'm hugely busy, but it's nothing to do with the pandemic

Actually, yes..... Apr 24, 2020

.... but it has nothing, absolutely nothing to do with the pandemic. Big +50.000 words job, followed by a (smaller) big job. Call it luck, because for the rest very little is coming in.

no... Apr 24, 2020

This week has been completely dead, with just one small job from a regular client. The last couple of weeks were okay but some of my clients, who usually send regular work.....just radio silence! One of them gets most of their work from Federal Gov agencies, sent me work daily and I have seen nothing since March. I imagine they're doing other contracts and don't need my language pair.
I suspected this would happen, which is why I had to apply for War Relief (as I call it).

I'm working about the same number of hours as I usually would.
The restrictions on shopping and things like that mean that I've had to change my routine a bit though. Today, instead of having my usual siesta after lunch, I ventured out and managed to make it to Aldi, a 20 minute drive away, to stock up on dog food (it's cheaper there). After that, I drove another 20 minutes to the nearest hypermarket to stock up on some things that I can't get in my local supermarkets. After that, I took

After that, I took the dog out for its constitutional and now I'm back home, working again, but I feel more tired than I usually would at this time of day. In fact, I might just knock it on the head until tomorrow, I usually work at weekends anyway, and I've got plenty to keep me going. I kind of feel like I'm due a break (I've also done a lot of other stuff today which I haven't mentioned.

No, but... Apr 24, 2020

I'm spending less time working on actual projects, which have all but stopped coming in, but more time looking for work and "sharpening my saw", as Stephen Covey put it. Ultimately, I guess, it's still work...

Business as usual... Apr 25, 2020

Not really. The volume of work is well into the standards I'm used to. It seems to me that the virtual business world is running normally. The only world that has stopped because of the Covid-19 is the old-fashioned employer-employee in-house thing, which was already in decadence anyway. The market is not at full power, of course, but it's very far from stopping.
