The last job I did was short and easy: a letter convening the members of a regional organization (my second longest-standing customer) for a general assembly in June.

Nowadays, I mainly do two types of translation for my major non-academic client: software strings, which can be a nightmare sometimes, due to the lack of context and/or feedback/communication with the client; and little in-house newsflash type snippets, not usually more than about 300 words, and often a lot less. Most of my work is easy for me but would be hard for most others. Isn’t that the point of specialising?

It was a manual for a client I've been following for about 20 years, so it was just the usual stuff, updated for use with more modern technology. | | |

That's not usually the case. I get a lot of documents written by local teams in developing countries. They are out there doing a great job at what they do, so I don't fault them for making the translation job harder. | |

Such texts make you progress so there are worth investing the extra time. | | |
