I also found this question difficult because "the services" is rather broad.

Not only services, but products as well. There are so many advantages of purchasing online and so many disadvantages of buying personally that the space here is insufficient to list all of them.
Bute there is one factor that kills purchases of any kind in person: the fact that we have specialized sites where you can select from a large list of service providers, read the reviews of former clients, see their stats and the famous 5-star rating method is more than enoguh to eliminate personal... Is software considered a service?
I use e-tail services to purchase most of the products that I buy, but I also hire a number of service providers that have to do their work in person: hair stylist, house cleaner, arborist, plumber, electrician, handyman, painter, carpet cleaner, auto mechanic, etc. Borderline cases might be CPA (though I'd sure hate to have to scan all those forms and receipts), computer tech, health care providers.
