The cat breed is maine, not main. If I get what you were aiming at.
My current version of Trados is 2022 and it does not differ in any way, shape or form from 2017 or 2014. I was only blackmailed by RWS to update it.

My main CAT tool is WFC 6, released in around 2014, I think. The latest version is 8. I also use WFP3, which is abandonware. Other than that, I use the latest versions of Trados, MemoQ, WFP7 and OmegaT. I have Word 365, which I sometimes use, but my main office program is Word 2003. I unfortunately have no choice but to use Windows 10, which is kinda rubbish, but I'm told it's way better than Windows 11.

The message comes in, telling us we need to update, and we keep putting it off because we don't have time at the moment and it interrupts the smooth flow of work....! No doubt in most cases to take on the update will mean a long-term improvement, and on top of that, if you don't go with it, you'll end up with no support (as Samuel points out). But oh, I am so reluctant to change!

I've been using MemoQ since 2007 and kept my subscription current until last year. Although the latest versions have included features that many translators might find useful, my needs have remained modest. I realized that I don't need all the bells and whistles, and that release 9.7 will meet all my requirements for the foreseeable future.

This is my main CAT tool and it's the latest version I use.
I also have Studio 2022 which I will not update, MemoQ 9.10 which I did not update this year, WFP7 which I will certainly not update, DVX which is brain dead (or abandonware, as Samuel puts it), OmegaT to play around with, Memsource (Editor) only because one of my customers uses it.

I sometimes do translations using MemoQ and it might just be the latest version, I don't know, I just use the licence the agency makes available to me.
I don't like to update, because I prefer to work with what already works. I saw lots of people moaning about the latest version of Windows, so I never updated that. I don't fix what isn't broken.

I've just updated Word because my old version kept crashing while I was working on a huge file. But I first made sure that the "new" version has been around for a while, because all too often the "early adopters" actually end up doing some last-minute testing.

Updates are a bit hit or miss from a user perspective, sometimes you get a nice stable update with features you needed, some other times, it breaks badly and you wish you never updated.
My approach is a sandbox one. I defer updates on critical machines and test out the new things in a VM or other when I get that small dip in workload that allows me time to explore.
For main OS: I usually wait a year or more before upgrading my main OS on my main productivity machine. New OS te... New OS tend to have issues upon first release and it’s only after many patches and users stories that they finally get it stable enough to make me happy. For Windows 10, I keep it at bay with https://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10 and a few lines of powershell and regedit to disable Cortana and other useless “features”.
Regarding CAT: same deal, I defer for a while and test the new version in a VM or other on my free time. Once I’m good and ready (and not in the middle of something), I push the update button.
A side note to update/forced upgrades policies: a lot of the economy is trying to shift towards subscription models, like what happened to Microsoft Office. Some software development companies try to get you into upgrading anyway on lifetime licenses. To take a neutral example: the Affinity suite (competitor to Adobe). It used to be 1 purchase, 1 app forever and maintaining + updates. All of a sudden, it moved to: we abandon the updates on the current version and we will publish regularly a new version where new projects won’t be backward compatible. I personally use Trados version 2019, I hear the newer versions are not that different and considering the prices as they are, I rather keep the same software until there is a significant update.
