Yeah, "the 1st world", which comprises ~35% of global population, definitely lives in the exclusive bubble. The rest - in the jungle.

Proz operates globally. ~60% of human population, "some Asians" including, live on average salary of 300 - 1000 dollars/month. Mind it, $1000 for skilled workforce. Let's ban that trash altogether.

Off the top of my head - 200 dollars a month will provide a Vietnamese foreign language student, our competitor and likely a very tech-savvy person in all that modern AI/MT etc, with ample and delicious street food that costs 1 - 4 dollars per meal for a month. Plus paid practice.

BTW, French, English (and Dutch) paid "some Asians" much less when they ruled the land. Maybe chickens are coming home to roost? They dare to want a piece of internet and globalization pie so bubble problems are now just that, bubble problems.

Yes, 0.03 is garbage to me too but I am a part of the bubble population. At least I have some clear glass windows in the walls and resolve my problems without blaming others.

If you realize that Proz is not getting better, or worse, or less accommodating, or whatever. It's already running a different business with different base and different drivers in a different translation world. Yes, it's not what we signed up for between 2000 and ~2010. Back in time top guns ruled and have been sought after, building a name for Proz and opportunities for others. Unfortunately, that period didn't last long. Back in time top guns ruled and have been sought after, building a name for Proz and opportunities for others. Unfortunately, that period didn't last long. When a door to any market opens up, those who can get in and make the most of it but when the source is depleted, we move on.

Old model no longer works, and as big as it is, Proz is David, not Goliath on the AI translation market. It has to survive or perish. So, the issue is not so much about new good or new bad within the same business, but whether you are willing/able to adjust and join a new business with a different MO aimed at next generations, or not.

All these discussions happen between the same dozen or so participants, mostly coming from niche, boutique or 20-40-year-old relationships with the clients. There are more still doing well but holding their peace, I'm sure of it, but not in overwhelming numbers. Where is the rest of the crowd? The advises given to youngsters and beginners are wise and honorable... but outdated and ridiculously unrealistic. Like demanding their own terms and turning down anything less than at least .10/word... without even one foot firmly on the ground and nothing to show for themselves in the midst of current global trends. Why keep them in a dreamland and give hopes for luxury life solely on a translation income right after the college?

When was the last time you've purchased anything before checking for sales and discounts?
