I’m one of those “dinosaurs” who don’t work with a CAT tool (there are still some of us left…), but I must say that I’ve used Deepl very, very occasionally (when I am tired or have some pain in my right hand or arm) as a very rough draft just to speed the typing up a bit. | | | Stepan Konev Russian Federation Local time: 04:42 English to Russian

What regards the subject matter, there are other ways to integrate DeepL for free. Using QTranslate (a free app) allows using DeepL for free in any text editor including CAT tools. | | | Alex Lichanow Germany Local time: 03:42 Member (2020) English to German + ...
I only use DeepL as a translation aid for complex sentences, so it has only happened once that I managed to exhaust the free daily limit for its browser client. Other than that, I simply don't like editing, period, so I wouldn't want to end up making an editing job out of a translation job.
As for other "AI" translators, especially those based on LLMs, I don't trust them to translate a sentence as simple as "This is a house" correctly and consistently, so I don't want them in my CAT tool, ... That being said, RWS is integrating an OpenAI plug-in in Trados Studio 2024. As someone on LinkedIn pointed out a couple of days ago, this plug-in cannot be uninstalled, can only be used with OpenAI's paid plan for $20/month and I'm about 99% sure that it uses your translations for training purposes in the background, whether you consent to it or not. I do not trust OpenAI - and I trust RWS even less - so I am not upgrading to Studio 2024. ▲ Collapse

Funnily enough, I've never enabled any MT plug-ins in my CAT tools. Perhaps because I use Dragon?

I would pay to keep the machines away, if anything. It’s bad enough what the autocorrect does on my phone.

Didn't know it was a possibility, but don't really need it.
I have a paid subscription to DeepL because my husband also uses it to translate whole files for his own activity (not translating).
I don't want to integrate it into my Cat tool because I prefer to control the whole process myself, just copying and pasting any complicated sentences, but always checking that DeepL does not come up with something unsuitable.

That's exactly what happens when it's integrated into your CAT tool, though. I mean, you can change the settings so that it automatically pre-translates the whole text using your TM or, if there aren't any 100% matches, then MT for the rest. But with my settings it just gives a suggestion in the results window (below my TM and termbase hits). I can use it directly if it's suitable, plug it in and edit it if it just needs some tweaking, or ignore it if I have a better idea. | | | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Do you/Would you pay to integrate DeepL or another AI translator into your CAT-tool?
