Even the online cheap clothes sellers have an option to remove any ads that break through AdBlockers immediately after pop-up. But half-price membership ad seems to be non-destructible and covers half of the screen. Maybe big deal, just tacky. Sorry for possible typos, I can't see half of what I wrote
How to close the membership Ad | Jun 29 |
Hi everyone. You can close the Ad by clicking in the "X" on the top-right corner of the page as shown on the attached image below

Last evening, when I got my first opportunity to curse that ad, the "X" you refer to seemed to be hidden/disabled, or inaccessible because the ad spilled over the edge of the screen.

I have briefly unblocked that page, and I now see that the "X" was in fact accessible - but it was black, not red, with a transparent background - and hence indistinguishable against a very dark area of the ad image. ▲ Collapse

Thanks for this, Jennifer. I'd given up trying to get rid of it and was ready to abandon the site for a few days until the ad goes away.
If this is a taste of the kind of thing we can expect when the "revamped" ProZ website is launched - and presumably will become obligatory, with no opt-out - then heaven help us all.
The kindest thing that can be said about this ad is that it is amateurish.
Is this a reflection of the state of our industry as a whole? Since when does Proz.com need to get members through a super discount? By the way, how successful was this one-day campaign?

... perhaps I would have taken advantage of it as a (very small) compensation for all the bugs we have suffered. as last year, the membership was surely not even worth half its price.
Maybe ProZ will consider repeating this "special sale"? (But still thinking about renewing.)

For my part, after much hesitation, I decided to give Proz the benefit of the doubt and I recently renewed for another year, if I had known about this discount I would have taken advantage of it for the reasons you mentioned...

A "one-day" campaign, claiming "TODAY ONLY", which has now already been running for three days, by my count.
Have the robots taken over, and are ProZ staff now unable to shut it down?

Just hit F5. The ad disappears.
Trying to find an X was one of the first things I tried. There is no X.

And then reappears as soon as you scroll up and down.

There is, but the only way to find it is to move your mouse slowly around in the upper right region until the mouse cursor changes from an arrow to a pointing hand. Then click.

Yes, there is. But it's black, so you have to look closely.
In the meantime this ad keeps on popping up everywhere. Kind of annoying.

Maybe they just don’t want me.
