Indonesian to Dutch: oral history (short interview excerpt) General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: History
Source text - Indonesian Taken from interview with ex-soldier of the Imperial Japanese Army, who chose to remain on Java after the War of Independence (time codes are included)
Translation - Dutch INT: Dit is misschien de laatste vraag.

Background and qualifications
I am a freelance English-to-Dutch and Indonesian-to-Dutch translator and editor (level of education: PhD) with a passion for languages and Indonesia/Asia. An Indonesian Studies graduate, I obtained a PhD in the Humanities (Indonesian Studies) in 2003. In 2007, I left my career as a university lecturer at Amsterdam University, Department of Media Studies (three years), to become a full-time language professional. This meant returning to my other career path, as I had been a part-time translator and language trainer (Indonesian) for ten years. Since becoming a full-time language professional I have specialized in translating and editing (academic) texts written in Dutch, Indonesian or English. Most of the texts that I translate or edit relate to Asia/Indonesia, but I am open to any language or consultancy assignment in my working languages. My areas of specialization are media, entertainment and culture; linguistics, art and literature; Indonesia, Southeast and East Asia, tourism and travel; anthropology, history and cultural studies. I have excellent language and communication skills, and a keen eye for detail and style. I am accurate and fast, and dedicated to building and maintaining excellent working relationships with my clients.
Languages
I am fluent in Dutch, English and Indonesian, and can read and understand French and German on an intermediate level.
Past projects
Please consult my CV for details on recent projects. Past projects include the revision of an Indonesian language course for a distance learning institute; translation of a trilingual (Indonesian/English/Dutch) publication for an academic publisher; editing of various academic, book-length texts on Southeast and East Asia; proofreading of an online journal on Korea; selection and translation of audiovisual excerpts for a large exhibition in a Dutch museum, which ran for over a year; subtitling of Indonesian films and documentaries for a Dutch production company; translation into Dutch of an English database for an English company specialized in language training.
Services and rates
Services that I provide include translating, editing, proofreading, subtitling (no specialized software available), language training (Indonesian/Dutch) and consultancy. Charges may be added for rush work and for working on weekends, while discounts may be provided for high volumes of work. Please submit the source text to obtain a full and binding quote.
