Source text - English Patient Intervention Self-Confidence/Competency Scale was used in this study. The scale was developed for health care students who had scenario-based simulation experience in Turkey. This scale included 18 statements and the statements in the scale were evaluated on a 5-point scale (1: Strongly Disagree; 2: Disagree; 3: Undecided; 4: Agree; and 5: Strongly Agree). The highest score stands for confidence to intervene to the trauma patients, whereas the lowest value implies that the students have no self confidence for the intervention of trauma patients. Thus, the maximum possible score for clinical implementation is 55, minimum is 11. The maximum psychological support score is 20 and the minimum is 4. The maximum knowledge of health care system score is 15, minimum is 3. The minimum total score possible is 18 and the maximum is 90.
Validity and reliability study of the scale was done by Terzioglu et.al., (2011). Exploratory Factor Analysis identified 3 factors explaining 60.9% of total variances. The three factors were classified as clinical implementation (11 items), psychological support (4 items) and knowledge of health care system (3 items). All items had factor loadings more than 0.40. Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient of the scale was 0.91 with subscales ranging from 0.80 to 0.94. These values demonstrate the validity and reliability of the Patient Intervention Self-Confidence/Competency Scale.
