Japanese to English: Car Manufacturers’ Measures Against Declining New Car Sales
Translation - English Toyota and Nissan have consecutively embarked on the development of a new type of store specialising in used vehicles. By means of joint investment with dealerships Toyota will establish a store that will be involved in both purchase and sales. Nissan is to start a store with the new brand Carminal (1), which will also handle other manufacturers’ vehicles and offer the service normally extended with the sale of a new car. With moves such as the shift towards light motor vehicles and used cars the companies are recognising the seriousness of the current stagnation of new vehicle sales in Japan. They are now incorporating the neglected used car business in their regular business, thus rebuilding a revenue base for their national activities.
(1) Translator’s note: Carminal is derived from Car Terminal
