Recent Projects

• Patent jobs have included for-information translations relating to a “A Counterplate Positioning Jig”, “An Engine Operation Control Device”, “A Vibration Actuator”, “A Carbon Monoxide Detection Warning Device and System for Supplying Air to Diver” and “A Liquid Crystal Display”, and ongoing Office Action translations for a US chemical company (via an agency).

•  I've also been working in the medical field for 6 years, and medical-related projects now account for around 50% of my work. I have experience with internal drug manufacturing procedures and medical-related papers (especially case reports). I've also been involved in the translation of the user interface for a personal health monitoring device and app.

• Outside the medical and patent fields, I've recently updated a troubleshooting manual for an engine manufacturer, translated e-learning materials on engine maintenance, and translated fault reports about engines subject to complaints.

Background 

• Initially employed by a major UK engineering group (Weir Group)

• Graduated with a Masters in Electronics/Information Science

• 11 years in Japan, initially as an English teacher, then as an in-house translator in a patent attorney’s office and latterly as a freelance technical translator.

• Now based in the UK.
