I am translating a book about a particular subject area since several years and cooperate directly with the author. The language used is very informal and contains a lot of highly specialized terms and also very intricate fixed expressions and idiomatic expressions that only those readers with deep knowledge of this subject area are able to fully comprehend. The language used is very informal and contains a lot of highly specialized terms and also very intricate fixed expressions and idiomatic expressions that only those readers with deep knowledge of this subject area are able to fully comprehend. It is a challenging translation project but at the same time very rewarding project each time that I find exactly the corresponding fixed expression or idiomatic expression in Swedish and I, all of a sudden, come to a full understanding of the whole sentence (and of a concept) by reading the segment in my mother tongue, Swedish.
My idea now is to add lots of LiveDocs (PDF files) that contain a wide range of fixed expressions, idiomatic expressions and specialized terms for this particular subject area in order to automatically get context hits from these resources when translating a segment. Would that be a good idea? Is there any documentation available about using LiveDocs for MemoQ Translator Pro?
Another idea I have is to also use muses, although this concept is completely new for me and my understanding of it is diffuse. First of all, for my particular project, would also muses, in addition to LiveDocs, be a good idea to use? If so, is there any documentation available about using muses for MemoQ Translator Pro (latest version, 11)? ▲ Collapse

Creating LiveDocs of your existing translations is probably a good idea, especially if your main goal is to be able to quickly check back over how your have previously translated certain key words and phrases. Having them in a database means you may get relevant LSC suggestions as you translate, or at least be able to use the concordance search to find previous examples.

Creating LiveDocs of your existing translations is probably a good idea, especially if your main goal is to be able to quickly check back over how your have previously translated certain key words and phrases. Having them in a database means you may get relevant LSC suggestions as you translate, or at least be able to use the concordance search to find previous examples.
Adding documents to a corpus is fairly straightforward (see docs). Your main challenge will probably depend on how closely/freely you've been translating to date. memoQ will split up the content and attempt to align the translations accordingly, but if there are things like missing sections, differing numbers of sentences, differences in ordering/formatting etc. then the resulting alignment can have gaps or be askew. PDFs may also throw a spanner in the works, real documents would work better if you have them. Either way, just play around with the alignment options when you import the documents and see what produces the best results.
As for muses (see docs), I can't really comment as I've only ever used them experimentally. It's a bit like building your own personalised 'auto-suggest' feature like you find in mobile phones and the like, which provide suggestions as you type. There again I'm not the biggest fan of auto-suggestion, so your mileage may vary. ▲ Collapse
