I’ve just tested it again and today is working: I’ve received the message and the copy sent to myself…
Support replied they fixed it over the weekend, and I received a profile email from another user.
[Edit: didn't see Yana had just posted the same info 3 minutes before me.]

Is the Connect messages issue fixed as well?

I haven't received any notifications for these messages, at least in the recent past (checked by message subject and date).
For the April and May messages in Connect, I can see that they were simply forwarded to my usual email address automatically. I did not receive any Connect notification, but all I care about is receiving the messages. I don't need Connect.
In my case, nothing has been forwarded to my email address for at least the last six months (I couldn't check all the 10 pages).

My patience has run out and I’m sure that, at any other organization, the site developers would have been sacked long ago…
Unless there is proof that the current developers are to blame, I wouldn't blame them. They may not have participated in the original development, and the technical documentation may leave a lot to be desired. New developers at a company often find they have to play Sherlock Holmes to find out how systems work and should be working.
They may also be understaffed.
The buck stops at the top.
We can't fire anyone at Proz, but each of us can 'fire' the service as a whole by not renewing our subscriptions, which is what I did last year. However, it would be wise first to weigh up if being a member provides any benefit that justifies the cost. Doing it in anger is not a good idea. [Edited at 2024-05-20 13:01 GMT]
I don’t know who is to blame for all the glitches we have been experiencing, but the fact is that I have been a member for 17 years and everything used to run smoothly until recently (2/3 years ago?)…

I'm equally unhappy. I'm just saying that we cannot know whose fault it is internally. In any case, management is always responsible.
Support sent a test message to my Proz.com messages (not email). No email notification was sent to me. That function is broken too.
Update from support | May 20 |
'The development team is already checking other direct message options available on ProZ.com.
Instant messages as Connect messages are not that used by users as they are connected only to certain types of emails.
I will let you know once I have an update.'
A bit cryptic. They are looking at something and may do something at some times in the future.

If there is a message type - any message type -, you'll need the option to forward them to an email inbox. No matter if they are "not that used" - they always mean business chances, and this site is meant to facilitate business. OR IS IT NOT?

You also need a path to get to these messages. There is no way on the website to find the Connect messages page.

My thoughts exactly! Maybe I'm stupid but I never even knew about this feature. Quite funny to find it after years ... I'm glad that I was never looking for jobs on ProZ, otherwise I'd be pretty annoyed. As it is, I just find it rather strange and illogical.

I don't depend on the Connect messages either, but I found a rather interesting collaboration proposal from March there!
I remember from the design that I received notifications for such messages in the past, so something must be definitely wrong here.

I've just replied to the interesting proposal I found in the Connect message center, and a copy of my reply was sent to my email address (I had checked that option).
So maybe this bug has been fixed too? Or is it a random one?

The last forwarded Connect message in my email inbox is from 20 May 2020 - 4 years ago!
It is a shame that just this seemingly useful ProZ tool does not work. Lots of lost opportunities for many people.

In total, they are surely hundreds.
I am consternated on how core business aspects are being approached here. And I am even paying for this non-service! Should I still?
The Connect program could be one of the most useful tools here on ProZ!
It's a paid program, with a clear goal - and even better web design (if it wasn't leading to the old web design at the end, which makes a bad impression business-wise - there's someone who can't do web design and structuring properly).

How to benefit as a translator or interpreter
What can you do right now to benefit? If you have any interest at all in meeting clients via ProZ.com, we need you to fill out your profile.
The opportunities that have arisen so far from our client marketing initiative call for specialists, often within a given area. This means that even as a routine job gets multiple quotes, large, highly desirable clients are struggling to find the specialists they truly need.
If you are interested in opportunities to meet a premium type of client, you must indicate your fields of specialization, where you live, your native languages, how you can be contacted, and other critical data. Maybe someone from the ProZ team could enlighten us. Why having and advertising a Connect program if it doesn't work and members are telling you, ProZ team, that they do not get any notifications?
I do remember that I did get Connect notifications until about 3 or 4 years ago. All newer enquiries from potential clients have died a slow death because I didn't hear about them ...
