Maybe someone from the ProZ team could enlighten us. Why having and advertising a Connect program if it doesn't work and members are telling you, ProZ team, that they do not get any notifications?
I do remember that I did get Connect notifications until about 3 or 4 years ago. All newer enquiries from potential clients have died a slow death because I didn't hear about them ...
I just asked in the still-open support ticket if someone might one to address the concerns here.
I am really shocked!!! | May 22 |
That's all I can say.
Out of almost 5 pages of messages sent to me since the end of 2018, only 2 messages have been read previously, i. e. I must have got a notification then. I discovered all the others now. There was also an invitation to a Powwow which possibly I could have attended to.
This means that since at least 2018 at least in my case (and not "3 or 4 years") this feature that we are paying for and which has been so much advertised practically never worked!!!

Nobody of ProZ got aware of this? They weren't yet busy with their update debacle then, so it must be completely unrelated. ▲ Collapse

@ProZ: Who had the brilliant idea NOT to provide a path on the website to this CRUCIAL message center??
Thank you Thomas T. Frost for bringing this to our attention!

So some people got the messages and others (most) didn't? Doesn't exactly make it better, if you ask me. Curious to know what support has to say ...

I've just replied to the interesting proposal I found in the Connect message center, and a copy of my reply was sent to my email address (I had checked that option).
Just to show what the Connect program (and missing its messages) can mean:
The agency from the March message has just replied, thanking me for my reply from yesterday. Obviously the project they contacted me about has already been assigned, but they want to keep my information for future reference.

I'm still going through the 10 pages of Connect messages that I had no idea were there. So far, I've found at least 3-4 interesting LOST opportunities.
I've just replied to another interesting proposal (paying 0.14 usd/word) from 2023, and this time the copy hasn't been sent to my inbox.
(In my answers I am explaining why I reply that late...)
UPDATE on the update: copy of my reply received.

I'd be shattered to discover this in my Connect inbox. I am glad I've been spared anything like it, and I sympathise with you, Zea_Mays.

Hi Maciek, I am shattered by the way things are generally handled here at ProZ. They waste a lot of time on useless things like the - fortunately abandoned - AI KudoZ answerer, but really important things like Connect, but also the web design, are not handled with the proper care.
As said, I am not depending on the collaboration proposals I found there, but expanding the customer base is always a good thing. If there was a drought like others here report to experience, I would be more than angry about this malfunction!
Some of the Connect messages are similar to what you see on the Jobs page, others are invitations to vote for contest entries (another thing that does not work) and the like, but some are serious and interesting offers that have been sent to selected people. So your chances of finding new good clients are really good.

to discover you did not even reply to interesting job offers... And then to have to explain why.
And most embarrassing the prolonged silence of ProZ regarding this definitely severe failure.

Why would the translator be embarrassed in relation to a problem caused by Proz? It's embarrassing for Proz. Paying Connect outsourcers should be angry with Proz for making them pay for a broken feature. For us, it's very easy to explain to the outsourcer that Proz never told us about the messages. The odd thing is that some of us have apparently received them while others haven't.
Replies to transactions@proz.com | May 23 |
It may not only be outsourcer emails to Connect that have been lost but also some of our replies to outsourcers that contacted us via the email link in our profiles.
As I mentioned over h... See more It may not only be outsourcer emails to Connect that have been lost but also some of our replies to outsourcers that contacted us via the email link in our profiles.
As I mentioned over here: Why is the reply-to address for profile email transactions@proz.com?, I tested an email received via the profile email function after they fixed it but noticed that when I tried to reply, the reply-to address was transactions@proz.com rather than the sender. A colleague tried to send a reply to that address, and the reply was not received. No notification was received either, so I think Proz must be sitting on a pile of emails that have never been delivered.
The implication is that while we may think we have replied to an offer from a client, our reply may have ended up in Proz’s black hole, and nobody told us.
This isn't new behaviour just introduced after the recent fix, as another colleague had first told me on 9 September 2023:
Hi Thomas. This is me again, trying via your website.
I've not had any indication you received the reply I sent to you yesterday, and the same applies to my reply to another ProZ colleague who contacted me about the same issue.
In both cases, the Reply-To address supplied by the ProZ mailer was transactions@proz.com.
If this mail goes through, and you did not receive my message yesterday, let me know and I will resend it.
I also received a job offer through ProZ yesterday, which had the same Reply-To address. I'm waiting to see if my response gets through or not.
The problem seems to have been fixed now, but I wonder how many replies have been lost in the past because of this. ▲ Collapse
