Now I want to tell you what she did to me recently and a whole story of this criminal gang.

1. Steal works of a linguist. Brigette (bridgettemarshall@tasktalent.org) promises to pay a linguist on a scheduled date, but does not pay at all.
2. Steal money of a linguist. Bridgette produces a fake payment document days later, directs the linguist to a scam website(https://mutualtrustcreditunion.com) for tracking the payment. On this website, an amount of money will be stolen again.

Hope everyone keeps alart and away from this woman and organization.

I was contacted by them as well Jul 31

Hi,
I was contacted by them, asking to translate a 105 page story and a promise to pay £7500.
That's £70 per page.
This is too good to be true and probably a scum.

How much did she offer you? Aug 1

Hi Joshua,

I received an email from the same person, Annalise Docherty.
She offered £70 per page which is way too high from market price.
That's what raised the flags for me.
No NDA no Contract no nothing.

Hi Joshua. I got an email from Annalise Docherty too (annalisedocherty@tasktalent.org). I couldn't find her or the company's online presence except on this website, https://tasktalent.org/, which didn't convince me after I examined it because of some strange hints. One of them is the address, which happens to be: 681210 Via House, 26C Hazel Road, Southampton, Hampshire, SO19 7GA, UK. After googling, I found that it was the address of a different and legitimate company, but it had been used for another translation scam too.

I replied to the email, asking for their website and social media, but she didn't answer my question. She just explained more about the "project," which sounded a bit too good to be true. When I checked the document she attached, it was, in fact, a book that had been translated into our language pair (English-Indonesian). It made me wonder why she asked me to translate it if it had been translated and published in Indonesian.

FYI, when I checked the IP, it stated that it was from Nigeria.

But besides that, she sounds pretty convincing. She uses a domain for her email address and writes clearly with no errors in her English.

I received an email from Annalise Docherty too and Received A Contract Agreement Aug 2

In addition to what has happened and been said to the other colleagues above, I also just received not only an email response from Annalise Docherty, but also from her supposed "colleague", called Lisa Williams, Managing Partner, from Legal Luminary Lawfirm.

Upon reviewing the contract, it seems quite well-written. But when I looked at the domain, it was from a "different domain" compared to Annalise, which was legaluminary.org. This is definitely a red flag.

Many more reasons to believe this is definitely a scam (since professionally, they should come from the same domain, same organization, in which was not the case here).

Let's stay vigilant, and don’t let yourself fall victim to these scams.

Thank you for your effort in answering and conducting a mini-research on that scammer. Indeed, the offer they provided was too tempting but seemed unrealistic.

initial email:
Dear Team, [which I thought was a slightly odd way of addressing me]

We are seeking your expertise for an exciting translation project. The task involves translating a comprehensive document from English to German. Given your experience and skills, we believe you would be an excellent fit for this project.

**Project Details:**
- **Source Language:** English
- **Target Language:** German
- **Project Type:** Translation of a detailed document
- **Requirements:** Proven experience in translation, attention to detail, and adherence to deadlines.

If you are available and interested, please confirm your availability and send your resume and portfolio to me at gregorycampbell@tasktalent.org. We look forward to the possibility of working with you!

Best regards,

Gregory Campbell

So I asked a few questions, and this was the reply:
--------
Dear Kirsten,

Thank you for your response.

I found your contact details through the Chartered Institute of Linguists website (https://www.ciol.org.uk), where your profile stood out due to your impressive qualifications and experience.

Regarding the project, here are the details:
- **Subject Matter:** Translation of a comprehensive movie script
- **Source Language:** English
- **Target Language:** German
- **Total Word Count:** 24,540
- **Deadline:** 10 working days for the full translation, with a 30% review translation due within 4 days

I can certainly provide you with a sample of the text to give you an idea of the content. Please find the attached sample for your review.

Our company, Task Talent, is based in Southampton, UK. We are able to make payments in EUR, and USD, depending on your preference.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or need additional information.

Looking forward to your response.

Kind regards,

Gregory Campbell

The above email also included the Word file of a film script for "Lion" by one Luke Davies.
There followed a few more questions from me, and I also sent them my CV (which with hindsight was probably not such a good idea, but hey, at that point I still thought this might be a legit contact as I hadn't had time yet to take a closer look at the website). Here is what they wrote next:
-------------
Dear Kirsten,

Thank you for your interest and for sending your CV. Your background in film studies is impressive and highly relevant to this project.

To address your questions:

1. **Purpose and Audience:** The script is being translated for a German-speaking audience. It is essential to translate the entire text, not just the dialogue, to ensure complete context and understanding.

2. **Access to Film Material:** Unfortunately, the script is the only document available for this project. We cannot provide access to the film material at this stage.

3. **30% Review Translation:** We require an initial review of 30% of the total script to be translated within 4 days. This review allows us to ensure the quality and consistency of the translation early on. Upon successful review, you will receive 50% of the total payment (£2,750). The remaining translation must be completed within a total of 10 working days.

4. **Payment Currency:** We aren't based in the UK and can make payments in GBP, which is ideal. Alternatively, we can pay in EUR if necessary. Please quote the job in your preferred currency.

Please confirm if these terms are acceptable and if you are ready to start immediately.

Looking forward to your confirmation.

Best regards,

Gregory Campbell

_______________
So at this point I finally had a closer look at their website and also looked at https://www.scamadviser.com/de/website-prufen/tasktalent.org, and after that I ended up writing this:
---------
Dear Gregory,

Will there be a contract? If so, I’d like to see it.

If you are(n’t?) based in Southampton, UK, can you also send me your full contact details, please? Your website is a bit patchy on that front, in fact it says

Contact Us
+627-521-1504 info@washeco.co.uk 8702 Jayson, Well Suite 348

and it doesn’t really say much about who you are, how you work etc. Oddly, it also just presents about a dozen freelancers and a lot of placeholders… All in all, it doesn’t look particularly trust-inspiring.

Kind regards

Kirsten

The first red flag was poor OCR, never seen from any professional agency.
The second red flag was a supposed PM contacting me on both Saturday and Sunday, and at strange hours at that - never seen a PM so dedicated to her job.

I gave her my full name and address, apparently for a contract to be sent for my signature on Monday. No harm in that as my contact data are public anyway - I'm a sworn translator.

I'm going to have some fun tomorrow if/when I see the proposed contract. Might even prolong the game a bit...

Update: The contract did arrive, attached to an email from info@legaluminary.org, the person supposedly being Lisa Williams, Managing Partner of Legal Luminary Lawfirm. Being in less playful mood than yesterday, I simply refused to sign.
