Could we please be allowed to use again somehow our Browniz? Thread poster: Christel Zipfel

Several years back, we were told that our Browniz for the moment were blocked and that a decision about their future use would be taken soon. Our Browniz are still here (I have no idea whether mine have grown in the meantime, you know, interests and so on... ) but they are at present worth less than nothing as we cannot use them. If they are still here after such a long time, I would be leaded to believe there is some reason, wouldn't you? Or maybe ProZ has forgotten about them?
Wouldn't it be the case, now that the annus horribilis with all those never ending bugs is behind us and it seems most of them have fortunately been resolved, that the staff dedicates some of their precious time to this question and lets us know, possibly within a reasonable time, what will happen to them?
I can't help but I don't find this very user-friendly... ▲ Collapse

Either that or simply remove them | Aug 5 |
There is no point to having a feature with no function.

If nothing else, these points are a record of a form of contribution to the site. Does that count as "a function"?
If there is a feature that is way past its use-by-date it is Kudoz questions asked by "non-logged-in-visitors".
If anyone wants free help the least they can do is to make an effort to register, especially given that registering an account with Proz doesn't take much time.

Weren’t BrowniZ points created by ProZ as a thank you for contributing to the site content? Anyway, AFAIK Browniz points contribute to a member's standing in the directory: if two members have the same number of KudoZ points, the one with more Browniz is shown first. I know there are other pressing problems but is anyone listening to us?
Browniz should disappear if they are now useless.

I doubt that you will get an answer from ProZ - some subjects are not high on their priority list.
That said, I completely agree with Wilsonn: Why not get rid of a system that apparently is not in use anymore?
BTW: What is the difference between KudoZ and Browniz? I must admit that I never really cared but now I'm curious ...
Browniz had (and still should have?) a monetary value | Aug 12 |

For example, I used to pay regularly part of my membership with Browniz. Or years back, non members could use Browniz to look up the BB instead of paying.
So simply cancelling them without a compensation of some sort or leaving them here hoping we forget about them eventually would not be fair IMHO. Just as a matter of principle.

I think KudoZ points represent your language proficiency (or at least they were meant to... ), they also play a main role in your ranking in the lists of professionals, while Browniz are gained through contributions/activity on the site (KudoZ agrees/disagrees, entering glossary terms, rating contest entries... I did not check this, so some category might be wrong, and there are surely more).
In the past, as Christel said, Browniz could be used to pay part of your membership or for other benefits of the site. In my opinion, making this possible again would benefit both the site and the users.

Thank you, Christel and Zea!
I see! In this case it actually does seem unfair to change this system without any explanation (turning BrowniZ into ZeroZ). Perhaps a moderator would care to answer?

… when you need them? No answer? Really?
Another one of these threads that are left to die.
Instead I’ve been receiving numerous ads trying to tempt me with special offers for membership renewal as mine is about to expire. Why should I keep being a paying member if well-founded questions such as Christel’s are ignored?

It makes little difference.

… and yes: no big difference 😉
But IMHO no reaction to proposals & meaningful questions is still irritating and not professional.

I've been informed by support that "A site staff will also reply to the forum thread shortly". This was on August 22 - not holding my breath.
