A client's translated driver's license (Japanese>English) was rejected by the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission because the term "subcompact" was used to describe the vehicle category. The client wants us to use the term "semi mid-sized" instead. Now they are asking for numerous terminology revisions. Is there a guide or glossary of automotive term translations from Japanese into English that are universally accepted by US motor vehicle commissions that anyone can refer or share?

I have no idea how to get out of this situation - either talk to someone in NJ MVD in person or try to address Japanese community here. I'm sure there are some who either translated some DLs before or maybe had to obtain US DL based on Japanese DL.
