My
Freelance Translator Journey

      Before putting an end to my career as an
officer in the Army I had chance of doing great volume of translation works at
the highest Headquarters of Army for 7 years from English to my native
language, Turkish, in the area of military, security, defense, international
security, arms control, disarmament, peacekeeping operations, peace support
operations and crisis management. Besides that I worked at United Nations
Lebanon mission (UNIFIL) Operations Center which is one the United Nations mission
in the context of peacekeeping in which I gained priceless experience on crisis
management, peacekeeping, peace support and international security terminology.
Not only this honorable mission did gave me experience but also I organised
many events and attended at many meetings, workshops, seminars, events and
courses in the area of disarmament and arms control in United Nations, OSCE and
NATO. My last position was at the Army Training Center of Peacekeeping and
Peacesupport Operations as an instructor. After retirment I took many courses
in the area of management, leadership, marketing, project management, time
management, crisis management, human resources, communications and body
language and coaching, logistics and supply chain management. I have a
Bachelor’s Degree on Business Administration.

      After I was requested
for a proofreading project of about a 400-page academic publishing from a
university I decided upon becoming a freelance translator as a bilingual. I
have been working as a freelance translator in EN>TUR language pair for 7
years.

      I am a member of
many web-based translator sites. I experienced some CAT Tools like SDL Trados,
Dejavu as well as web-based MateCAT and SmartCAT. I’m actively using Trados
& DejavuX3 Professional at the moment. I’m also a member of Translators
Without Borders.

      My expertise areas
are primarily military, defense, security, international security, arms control
and disarmament, peacekeeping and peace support, leadership, organization, and
as second priority,  logistics and supply chain management,
marketing,communications and body languge, project management, time management,
human resources, team management, crisis management, coaching.

      I can handle
translation, localization, proofreading, revision and MT post-editing jobs.

      I am also a member of Translators Without
Borders (TWB).
