La découverte d’un fémur de 48 cm dans une grotte de Crimée indique que des oiseaux de 3,5 m de hauteur et de 450 kg (le poids d’un ours polaire) cohabitaient avec les premiers Homo, en Europe, il y a 1,8 million d’années.
Ce 3e plus gros oiseau jamais découvert était,
bien plus que les précédents, taillé pour la course, afin d’échapper aux nombreux prédateurs alors présents sur le continent.

يشير اكتشاف عظم للفخذ بطول 48سم بكهف القرم إلى وجود طيور بارتفاع 3.5 م ووزن 450كجم (في وزن الدب القطبي) ، وإلى تعايش الانسان الاول معها منذ 1.8 مليون سنة . وهو ثالث أكبر طائر اكتشفه العلماء على الاطلاق واكثر بكثير من سابقاته وذلك بهدف الفرار من العديد من الحيوانات المفترسة الموجودة في القارة .
