Es una enfermedad grave que produce parálisis en los músculos. Es causada por una toxina producida por la bacteria Clostridium botulinum.
¿CÓMO SE TRANSMITE?
Se transmite por ingerir alimentos contaminados por la toxina y también por la inhalación de la misma. Esta enfermedad no se transmite de persona a persona.
¿CUÁLES SON LOS SÍNTOMAS?
• Alteraciones en la visión (visión borrosa o doble).
• Boca seca.
• Debilidad general.
• Dificultad respiratoria.
• Parálisis.
• Pueden presentarse: náuseas, vómitos, dolor abdominal, dificultades para hablar y tragar.
¿QUÉ TAN PRONTO APARECEN LOS SÍNTOMAS?
Depende del tipo de transmisión:
Si la enfermedad se transmitió por ingerir alimentos contaminados, los síntomas empiezan 12 a 36 horas después.
Si la enfermedad se transmitió por la inhalación de la toxina, los síntomas empiezan 24 a 72 horas después.
¿CÓMO SE PREVIENE LA ENFERMEDAD?
Los alimentos conservados y preservados deben ser procesados y preparados correctamente. Los productos en envases que se abomban o hinchan no deben ser consumidos y los productos con malos olores no deben ser preparados ni probados. Las latas comerciales con tapas o tapaderas abombadas o hinchadas se deben devolver, sin abrir, al lugar donde se compraron. Los vegetales enlatados deben ser hervidos, revolviendo frecuentemente, por lo menos 3 minutos antes de comer.

It is a serious disease that produces paralysis in the muscles. It is caused by a toxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
HOW IS IT TRANSMITTED?
It is transmitted by consuming food contaminated by the toxin and also by inhaling it. This disease is not transmitted from person to person.
WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS?
• Alterations in the vision (blurred or double vision).
• Dry mouth.
• General weakness.
• Breathing difficulties.
• Paralysis.
• The person may also experience: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, difficulties speaking swallowing.
HOW SOON DO THE SYMPTOMS APPEAR?
It depends on the type of transmission:
If the disease was transmitted for consuming contaminated food, the symptoms begin 12 to 36 hours later.
If the disease was transmitted by inhalation of the toxin, the symptoms begin 24 to 72 hours later.
HOW CAN THE DESEASE BE PREVENTED?
The conserved and preserved foods must be processed and prepared correctly. Products in bulging or bloating containers should not be consumed and products with bad odors should not be prepared or tested. Commercially canned products with lids or covers bulged or bloated must be returned, unopened, to the place where they were purchased. The canned vegetables must be boiled and stirred frequently for at least 3 minutes before eating.

FREE Dental Screening at School
Dear Parent/Guardian:
A Peel Public Health Registered Dental Hygienist and Certified Dental Assistant will be providing FREE dental screening in select grades in Peel elementary schools.
Contact your child’s school to find out when Peel Public Health will be visiting for dental screening.
Why is oral health important?
1. Good oral health is important to a child’s overall health.
2. Untreated tooth decay may lead to pain and infection. It may lead to other problems such as difficulty chewing, difficulty concentrating, or the child may miss school.
What is a dental screening?
1. It is a quick assessment by a Registered Dental Hygienist who will take a look inside the child’s mouth. A separate, sterilized mouth mirror is used for each child.
2. It identifies dental treatment needs that parents may not know about. If a child is identified a form will be sent home and the parent may be contacted by a dental staff member. Eligible children can receive free dental services under Healthy Smiles Ontario program. Please click here for more on dental forms.
3. A dental screening does not replace regular dental visits.

2. Esto identifica tratamientos dentales que pueden ser requeridos y los padres desconocen. Si al niño se le diagnostica algo se enviara la información a los padres y posiblemente un miembro del equipo dental los contacte. I was born in Colombia, South America. Since early age I have enjoyed reading and learning about anything related to human nature, its mind, development and behavior.
Therefore, humanities such as psychology, history, and spirituality have always been of great interest to me.
After obtaining a degree in Social Communications I went to R.I.T in Rochester New York, to complete a diploma program in General Management. Once I went back to Colombia I worked for several years in the marketing and sales field.
Then I came to Canada and encountered the fascinating world of Interpretation & Translation. Fourteen years of experience as a community Interpreter has given me the opportunity to approach many different areas of interpretation. One of them being in the Mental Health field, working with psychiatrist, psychologist and psychotherapeutics, have enriched my knowledge and terminology.
I am professionally trained and a graduate from MCIS’ Interpreter and Translator Training Programs, specialized in Medical Terminology. This specialization and my experience in different healthcare settings have allowed me to be skilled and proficient in the Medical field.
