A native German speaker, I grew up in South West Africa (today's Namibia), which gave me an early appreciation of other languages, Germany, where I managed to gain an understanding of German culture and mentality, and the Netherlands, where I gained some valuable insights into bridging gaps between countries and their languages. After an itinerant life involving addresses in a few more countries, I spent most of my working life in the United Kingdom, although I have been known to work abroad (admittedly a vague term, considering my background), i.e. on in-house projects for major clients.
Personal reasons required an upping of sticks and repatriation, so, I am back in the fatherland, getting re-acquainted with my roots. Considering what has transpired in Britain since I left, I am beginning to warm to the idea.
I have been working in Software Localisation for just over 20 years now, with an emphasis on games (UI, audio, manuals, box texts, marketing; additional experience as a games tester), software related marketing and training texts, and also the legal aspects of software translation (EULAs, Tenders), as I studied law before my translation days.
I am also a qualified, if underused, interpreter, again with a slightly legal/gamesy orientation.
