Discover the beauty and awesome power of Niagara Falls on a day trip from New York. You’ll fly to Upstate New York, tour the falls on both the US and Canadian sides (don’t forget your passport!), see all the sights, including a ride on the historic “Maid of the Mist” or taking a “Journey Behind the Falls”. And at the end of an amazing day you’ll take an evening flight back to New York.
After being collected from your Midtown Manhattan hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Upstate New York (approximately one hour). On arrival, you will be met by your guide for the day to board the bus to Niagara Falls.
After lunch, you will board the famous “Maid of the Mist” boat for an up-close experience of Niagara Falls. The 30-minute cruise takes you through the foaming waters to the base of the American Falls and the basin of Horseshoe Falls. You will get close enough to the falls to feel the cool mist on your skin.
The “Maid of the Mist” operates only in the warmer months, from May to October, so if you are traveling from November to April you will visit the "Journey Behind the Falls". An elevator will take you behind the great sheet of Niagara Falls down to a thunderous up-close view of Niagara Falls.

Source text - English Who cast that first fateful tomato that started the La Tomatina revolution? The reality is no one knows. Maybe it was an anti-Franco rebellion, or a carnival that got out of hand. According to the most popular version of the story, during the 1945 festival of Los Gigantes (a giant paper mâché puppet parade), locals were looking to stage a brawl to get some attention. They happened upon a vegetable cart nearby and started hurling ripe tomatoes. Innocent onlookers got involved until the scene escalated into a massive melee of flying fruit. The instigators had to repay the tomato vendors, but that didn't stop the recurrence of more tomato fights—and the birth of a new tradition.
Fearful of an unruly escalation, authorities enacted, relaxed, and then reinstated a series of bans in the 1950s. In 1951, locals who defied the law were imprisoned until public outcry called for their release. The most famous effrontery to the tomato bans happened in 1957 when proponents held a mock tomato funeral complete with a coffin and procession. After 1957, the local government decided to roll with the punches, set a few rules in place, and embraced the wacky tradition.
Though the tomatoes take center stage, a week of festivities lead up to the final showdown. It's a celebration of Buñol's patron saints, the Virgin Mary and St. Louis Bertrand, with street parades, music, and fireworks in joyous Spanish fashion. To build up your strength for the impending brawl, an epic paella is served on the eve of the battle, showcasing an iconic Valencian dish of rice, seafood, saffron, and olive oil.
Today, this unfettered festival has some measure of order. Organizers have gone so far as to cultivate a special variety of unpalatable tomatoes just for the annual event. Festivities kick off around 10 a.m. when participants race to grab a ham fixed atop a greasy pole. Onlookers hose the scramblers with water while singing and dancing in the streets. When the church bell strikes noon, trucks packed with tomatoes roll into town, while chants of "To-ma-te, to-ma-te!" reach a crescendo.
Then, with the firing of a water cannon, the main event begins. That's the green light for crushing and launching tomatoes in all-out attacks against fellow participants. Long distance tomato lobbers, point-blank assassins, and medium range hook shots. Whatever your technique, by the time it's over, you will look (and feel) quite different. Nearly an hour later, tomato-soaked bombers are left to play in a sea of squishy street salsa with little left resembling a tomato to be found. A second cannon shot signals the end of the battle.

Los inocentes espectadores se vieron involucrados y la escena se magnificó hasta convertirse en una enorme aglomeración de fruta voladora. Los instigadores tuvieron que compensar económicamente a los vendedores, pero eso no los detuvo a la hora de reincidir en más peleas de tomates ni a dar nacimiento a una nueva tradición.
Temerosas de un alzamiento rebelde, las autoridades promulgaron, flexibilizaron y restablecieron una serie de prohibiciones en los años 50. En 1951, los habitantes que desafiaron la ley fueron encarcelados hasta que la protesta popular exigió su liberación. La desfachatez más famosa para oponerse a la prohibición a la guerra de tomates fue en 1957, cuando los querellantes montaron un funeral falso de tomates, con ataúd y procesión. Después de 1957, el gobierno local decidió enfrentarse a las dificultades, estableció algunas reglas y aceptó la alocada tradición.

Con el fin de juntar fuerzas para la pelea inminente, en la víspera de la batalla se sirve una paella épica que consta de un icónico plato valenciano de arroz, mariscos, azafrán y aceite de oliva.
Hoy en día, este festival desbocado tiene algo de orden. Los organizadores hasta se han atrevido a cultivar una variedad especial de tomates incomibles solo para el evento anual. Las festividades comienzan alrededor de las 10 a. m., cuando los participantes compiten para alcanzar un jamón colocado en la punta de un poste engrasado. Los espectadores riegan con agua a los atrevidos competidores mientras cantan y bailan en las calles. Cuando la campana de la iglesia anuncia el mediodía, los camiones llenos de tomates entran al pueblo, mientras los cánticos de «¡To-ma-te, t-o-ma-te!» alcanzan su pico.
