Source text - English While cancer treatments such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery are invasive or debilitating, nanotechnology promises treatment with barely a touch. Researchers, including Naomi Halas of Rice University, have engineered spheres of silica coated with a thin layer of gold that are about 120 nanometers in diameter (right). Injected into the bloodstream, they can infiltrate tumors. When an infrared laser is then focused on the tumor, as illustrated above, the intense light passes harmlessly through healthy tissue but heats up the nanoshells, which kill the malignant cells while leaving adjacent tissue unharmed. In laboratory tests, mice have remained healthy and tumor free more than 90 days after such treatments.

Translation - English Title: Torsional Vibrations during Misfiring of a Six-Cylinder Diesel Engine Fitted with a Five Bladed Propeller
Abstract: Discussed were the torsional vibration characteristics of the crankshaft in a case in which one of the cylinders in a 6 cylinder-marine diesel engine for a large ship equipped with a five-blade propeller has misfired. When a misfire has occurred in one cylinder, the torsional vibration amplitude of the 6th torque harmonics decreases in comparison to the normal state. However, due to the increase in the 4th as well as the 5th torque harmonics, the torsional vibration amplitude corresponding to these elements increases. Particularly, it is necessary to pay attention that since the the torsional vibration stress increases due to the increase in the fourth torque harmonics element, it may well be over the shaft’s permissible stress limit.

Muis investigates ‘halal’ pork flavoured instant noodle
“While Muis is investigating this matter, we would like to advice the Muslim community to be careful when selecting their food and to observe the ingredients used. It is very important for them to read the ingredients used in making the products they wish to purchase,” -Muis.
Singapore Islamic Council (Muis) is carrying out an investigation on the sales of pork flavoured instant noodle that carried a halal mark.
According to Muis statement yesterday, the said product is from Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and its manufacturer claimed to have received a halal certificate from Islamic authorities in that country. “While Muis is investigating this matter, we would like to advice the Muslim community to be careful when selecting their food and to observe the ingredients used.
“It is very important for them to read the ingredients used in making the products they wish to purchase,” said MUIS.
He also thanked the public who had informed him of this matter.
Muis received their first e-mail regarding this matter yesterday and have replied to its sender stating that Muis has already started an investigation on the matter.
Yesterday, Berita Harian published a letter from its reader, Mr Amir Amin in its Forum page, which reported on the same matter.
Mr Amir spoke of his experience in finding the pork flavoured Lucky Instant Noodle with a halal mark in a supermarket in Woodlands.
After being notified, the supermarket has quickly withdrawn the product, said Mr Amir.
“Importers have already taken this product off their shelves. Response from the Muslim consumers is an important component in guarding and ensuring the integrity and sacredness of the halal certification efforts,” said Muis.
He also stated that the food consumption is an individual resposiblity. If there are any doubts, it
would be better for them to avoid consuming such products, advised Muis.
