Courtesy of my brother who's a graphic designer, I recycle "leftovers" for him. DTP requires quality and big, big screens.

I am on my way of purchasing a 22" or 24" monitor...
But I am also using more than one monitor.
Wonderful!!!! | | |

I will be upgrading to a larger display any day now. The objective, from a translating viewpoint, is being able to view more documents at a time, without having to Alt-Tab between windows.
I am happy that CRT displays have finally been displaced by flat ones that are easy to transport.

I have it upright to make room for Trados | Jun 23, 2008 |
I have rotated it to allow for Trados at the top and a good portion of the document at the bottom - or to see two documents at a time with the screen divided horizontally.
Plenty of room for e-mails, dictionaries etc. too.
I'm long sighted, so I sit quite a long way away from the screen. The only disadvantage is that it feels odd when I have to go back to the 'old' horizontal position with the laptop. But I don't use that much anyway!
In my case, I work with only one monitor, but it is said that working with two monitors is more comfortable, is that true Heidi?
Best,

I got a 22" screen in January and I love it!! It's the best thing. Any other screen seems so small...!

22" widescreen | Jun 23, 2008 |
22" widescreen, currently. Couldn't really imagine working with anything less, after switching from a 19" CRT. The added space on either side is invaluable when working with documents, especially oldskool translation from source doc to target doc.

I'm not Heidi but I can answer that I would never change back to just one monitor. I have two 19" and now I have sooo much space for all the documents, websites and dictionaries I always have to have open.

22" as of a couple weeks ago when my old 19" monitor died. I love it!
22" widescreen | Jun 24, 2008 |
I LOVE IT!! As we speak, I have my source document on the left and the target on the right - and I can read the full page comfortably without glasses. What a luxury! Now I'm thinking about a second one for my other computer.

I am a bit torn by this matter.
I like my laptop and its 14 inch screen as I can take it out to the garden on a nice day and do my work in a pleasant surrounding.
On the otherhand, I would like to get a large, desktop computer with a massive screen (or two) and all of the benefits that would entail.
Of course, that would keep me inside the house.
Decisions, decisions...
I use two 21" monitors .great staff:-)

on the table - double 19" (as Henry, I am myopic too, but I like this feature better).
Right behind me - another table with another PC + single 19" monitor.
I am dreaming about an L-shaped desk..
