Employment History:

December 2009 – Present
Translator and sole proprietor of The Nordic Word

I began translating in 2009 under the brand The Nordic Word as a sole proprietor while still studying for my Bachelor’s degree in German and Scandinavian Studies. I am currently expanding my business to include other Nordic languages and to build a small team of competent and experienced freelance translators. I have been commissioned to translate within a variety of fields and media, and deal both with translation agencies and end-clients.

January 2010 – January 2011 Swedish - English Translator

Pricewaterhouse Coopers Öhrlings
Torsgatan 21
113 97
Stockholm

When living and studying in Sweden as part of the Erasmus University Exchange programme, I worked part-time as an in-house translator for PwC between January and June 2010. When I returned to the UK, I continued to work for the company on a freelance basis until January 2011.

Duties:
- Translation
- Proofreading
- Revision and editing

Fields and text-types:
- Finance, economics and accounting
- Transport, shipping and aviation
- Retail
- Manufacturing
- Marketing

Skills:
- Production of high-quality texts
- Adherence to strict deadline and confidentiality protocols
- Development of impeccable client care

July – September 2010 Consular Assistant (internship)

Embassy of Sweden
21 Montague Place
London
W1H 2AL

Upon returning to the UK from a period living in Sweden, I was lucky enough to be able to undertake an eight week internship as a consular assistant at the Embassy of Sweden in London during the UCL summer recess.

Duties:
Bilingual Swedish / English reception duties; processing visitors and incoming phone calls
Assisting in consular matters (repatriation, illness, incarceration of Swedish citizens, passport and visa applications)

Fields:
- Immigration and consular matter
- Defence
- Arts, culture and tourism

Skills:
- Development of impeccable client care

Other employment:

September - December 2009 English language teacher. Kiel, Germany

As part of the Erasmus University Exchange Programme, I worked for four months as an English language teacher in Kiel, Germany. This helped me to develop solid proficiency in German and as well as my teaching skills following a C&G qualification in Adult Teaching that I undertook between September 2004 and July 2005.

December 2004 – September 2009 Dispensing Optician

Prior to starting university in September 2006, I worked part-time as an Optical Assistant while completing my A-Levels. During a gap year in 2005-2006 I trained further within optics to work as a Dispensing Optician. Throughout university I have always maintained part-time employment in the optics industry as a source of guaranteed income. I have worked for a number of optical stores, from small boutique independent stores to the flagship store of Vision Express on Oxford Street.
