J'étais assis par terre, près de la fenêtre en demi-lune, au milieu de mes petits meubles et de mes animaux. Mon dos touchait presque l'énorme tuyau de poêle qui, venant du magasin et traversant le plancher, allait se perdre dans le plafond après avoir chauffé la pièce. C'était amusant car, quand le feu, en bas, ne ronflait pas, le tuyau conduisait le son et j'entendais distinctement tout ce qui se disait.
Il pleuvait noir. Ma mère prétend que l'expression est de moi. Elle affirme même que je l'ai employée alors que j'étais encore sur les bras. Mais, pour ce qui est des souvenirs, il ne faut pas trop se fier à ma mère. Nous sommes rarement d'accord dans ce domaine. Ses souvenirs à elle sont douceâtres et de teintes passées commes les images religieuses bordées de dentelle en papier qu'on glisse dans les livres de messe. Si je lui rappelle une histoire de notre passé commun, elle s'effare, s'indigne.

I was sitting on the floor near the half-moon window among my childish furniture and animals. My back nearly touched the huge duct which came through the floor from the shop below, heated the room, and disappeared into the ceiling. At times, when the heater downstairs wasn’t too noisy, it was fun to listen to the sounds which carried through the duct. I could distinctly hear everything people were saying.
It was raining darkly. My mother claims that I invented that expression myself, that I used it when I was just a baby. However, where memory is concerned, my mother is not too reliable. We rarely agree about the past. Her memories are cloying and old-fashioned, like those holy cards edged in paper lace that one slips into missals. If I tell her a story from our common past, she gets very upset and indignant.

BMW appuie sur le frein des dépenses, sur fond de crise liée au coronavirus. Le constructeur automobile bavarois confirme, ce vendredi, son intention de supprimer 6 000 emplois en 2020, notamment via des départs à la retraite.
Pour rappel, le groupe employait fin 2019 quelque 126 000 personnes. « Après les mesures existantes de flexibilité », notamment le chômage partiel, « des mesures supplémentaires sont nécessaires » a-t-il ajouté ce vendredi matin après avoir fait état d’un accord avec les syndicats.
Perte d’exploitation
Ces réductions d’emplois se feront à travers la « fluctuation naturelle » et avec des départs en retraite anticipée volontaires. Par ailleurs, des contrats de 40 heures passeront à 38 et certains employés pourront choisir de bénéficier de huit jours de congés supplémentaires en renonçant à une partie du salaire.
« Nous allons trouver une solution dans le cadre d’un dialogue constructif avec les représentants du personnel », promet Ilka Horstmeier, la directrice du personnel....
