Source text - English This paper describes early experiences in a project to improve the controlled operations of a Ferronickel electric arc smelting furnace. The initial intent was to use multivariate analysis techniques to investigate the performance of the furnace, to gain greater process understanding and to identify process abnormalities reliably. However, the multivariate studies emphasised that the furnace was in a state of continuous disturbance because of the way that the Calcine feed was being managed by the process operators. Therefore an improved basis for managing the feed has been proposed and is presently in a test period. This new strategy seeks to maintain steady feed conditions in relation to power, rather than employing varying feed to manage temperature excursions. Once this new strategy is embedded, the multivariate investigative work will continue with a view to establishing an advisory system to assist process operators in their hour to hour management of the furnace.
Translation - Spanish En este documento se describen las primeras etapas de un proyecto de mejora del control operacional de un horno de arco eléctrico de fundición de Ferroniquel. Aunque la intención inicial fue utilizar técnicas de análisis multivariable para investigar el desempeño del horno, entender mejor el proceso e identificar las anormalidades del mismo de una forma confiable, el estudio multivariable demostró que el estado de perturbación continua en el que se encontraba el horno era causado por la forma en que los operadores estaban manejando el proceso de alimentación de calcina. Como resultado, se propuso una mejora para el manejo de la alimentación la cual está en periodo de prueba. El objetivo de la nueva estrategia es mantener las condiciones de alimentación estables para un determinado voltaje, en lugar de controlar las variaciones de la temperatura alterando la alimentación. La investigación multivariable continuará con miras a establecer un sistema de alerta que asista al personal de proceso en la operación rutinaria del horno, una vez se haya incorporado la nueva estrategia.

Check the play in this pulley by moving it left and right. If the motion feels sticky or it doesn't move, loosen the allan bolt that holds it on, clean off the gunk on the bolt, put teflon grease on the bolt and reinstall it. Our idler pulley was operating perfect on this engine.
