"Rivers in the Desert: Growing a Business in a Crisis"

Over the past few months, the vast majority of translators and interpreters have seen their businesses hit hard by the effects of COVID-19. This may seem like the most challenging period in recent memory for our sector and for many, it is.

Yet that is not the end of the story.

Sandwiched between the political upheaval of Brexit and the challenge of still maintaining an income during the COVID-19 crisis, one business saw its worst income period on record, before bouncing back to a sudden influx of work - mine. But this isn't a rags to riches fairytale or a self-indulgent story. With searing honesty and real hope, I will walk you through the story of the last year in my business, from the pinnacle of speaking at a glitzy conference in Geneva to the despair of months without work and seemingly, without hope. The focus, however, will be on how Brexit and COVID-19 created both danger and opportunity.

I will pull back the curtain on key business myths, especially the myth that we can control our business outcomes and the myth that our value is the same as our income, before walking through the steps to finding opportunity in crisis. If the COVID-19 crisis seems to have you on the ropes, think of this as the voice of your coach helping you to stand back up.

"1 Powerful Tool Interpreters Can Do To Super-Boost Translation & Transcription Speed"

Are you an interpreter without work due to the COVID pandemic? Or, are you a translator/interpreter? If so, you are like me. In fact, although I translate documents, I have a very outgoing personality and prefer to be out amongst people interpreting instead of looking at a computer screen all day. But, sometimes you have to bite the bullet and translate. So, I look for different ways in which I can increase my translation speed. Why? So I can finish the document faster!

My name is Robert Holloway and I am a Korean-English interpreter/translator. In this webinar I show how you (especially if you're a court or simultaneous interpreter) can super-boost your translation and transcription speed.
All you need is:
  • A Gmail account
  • Access to Google Docs
  • A microphone
If you practice and utilize this technique you will be able to:
  • Submit translations more quickly
  • Take more translation projects and make more money
  • Reduce stress
  • Keep up with your interpretation skills
You can continue to translate at your current speed, wishing the time would go more quickly, or join me in this free webinar to learn how to accomplish these things.

How can we protect ourselves against loss of income and respond to this unprecedented crisis? Is agreeing to reduce rates a good idea? How can we survive if we don't or even if we do? Is this a good time to diversify our services?

What is your take on this crisis and is the new normal remote working?
