: Concise Oxford says this is more comon in the US. My experience is that it tends to be used figuratively in the UK - one gets sidetracked into doing something not originally planned.

: As I understand the use of "sidospår" in Sweden, it often refers to what I would call a "spur" in English (also called a "stickspår" in Swedish), not a passing track or siding. Check with your client to see which is meant.
