True, Janed. Self-service does carry the connotation of "taking", but not in a greedy way :-)

I see what you're saying, Christina, although to me "self-service" implies just that - serving oneself, not depositing trays after eating or whatever. I assumed that the other part which was dimensioned properly was probably the preparation area, but of course the document may not be written in the order of the flow of whatever it is!

Pick-up area Could also be pick-up area. It's not a common term, is it? Because it says "tagningsdelen är *däremot*" which indicates that some other part of the flow is at least properly dimensioned, like a "set-down area", so self-service would not distinguish the "tagning" from the "lämning" or whatever the other part is.

Obviously this depends on the context, but the word also seems to be used to indicate the area where guests take their own food within a restaurant or other food serving location - see reference.

I was thinking it might be a typo for mottagningsdel, but as it turns out I was wrong.
