Description

How do we ensure that we are able to not just survive, but thrive as translators? What are the key threats to the longer-term health of the translation profession? Where do we place our responsibility as ethical professionals?

This session is the second of two webinars by Dr Joseph Lambert on the topics of ethics and sustainability for translators. Using John Elkington's famous triple bottom line model as a basis, this session explores the key range of sustainability challenges facing translators today through the lenses of people, profit, and planet. This entails covering everything from the ecological impact of our work and our place in society, to considering our own wellbeing and working conditions, as well as examining the role that ongoing technological developments play in all of these conversations.

The challenges covered are contextualised using a range of engaging case studies, and the session will conclude with an open discussion of several thought-provoking scenarios, allowing participants to reflect on the principles covered, as well as their own internalised moral codes.
