My name's Andy Davis, I'm a native English translator who translates from Portuguese, French, Spanish, Catalan, Galician and Japanese into English (whew!). Although I am currently living in the States I was brought up and educated in the UK (Lancs) so am capable of producing translations in both UK and US English.
I have been working as a freelance translator for five years at the time of writing (November 2017), having developed expertise in the following areas:
-Contracts, contracts, contracts: any sort of agreement/accord/contract between individuals, organisations or companies... I've done it.
-More general legal/governmental: From a more general legal standpoint I've also translated entire mining codes for several African countries, the whole of the Portuguese aviation code and handled entire lawsuits involving companies of international renown/notoriety. I've also handled a number of very sensitive court rulings/decisions.
-Pharmaceutical/medical: I frequently translate pharmaceutical texts, from SMPCs to protocols, patient/doctor open end responses... I'm not exaggerating when I say I've done everything to do with it. From a more general medical standpoint this is
-Market research: I regularly translating open end responses from surveys conducted by Ipsos Mori from all markets around the world, which covers a broad spectrum from insurance to breakfast cereals to tinting machines, and these were just ones in the last month.
The above is my bread and butter, however for a more complete list please have a look at my CV.Regarding Japanese translations: Four years ago I began studying Japanese seriously and am now completely fluent in daily conversation, with some knowledge of more technical medical terms. I am currently accepting Japanese assignments at a reduced rate to gain more experience within this field - accepting projects at levels which are commensurate to my current abilities - hence the reduced rate. In terms of certification I am currently at the N2 level, probably higher.
In terms of education I hold my MA in Translation for International Business from the University of Salford in the UK, and my BA from the University of South Alabama in America. Additionally I have certification from specialist courses on legal and insurance terminology offered by the North West Translators Network from the UK.
If there's any way I can be of assistance on your next project, please don't hesitate to get in touch, and I very much look forward to being able to help out. You can also visit me on my website.
