Source text - Spanish Una rotura que, según confirma la Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadalquivir (CHG), se ha producido en el canal del Guadalmellato, ha inundado varias naves en el polígono industrial de Chinales. La avería se produjo ayer a primera hora de la mañana y persiste, sin que hasta el momento haya podido solucionarse. No obstante, fuentes de la CHG aseguran que los técnicos están analizando la incidencia. Estas fuentes explican que la CHG no ha procedido a cortar el suministro porque, a causa de otra avería distinta, la empresa municipal Emacsa ha estado abasteciendo a la ciudad a través del canal del Guadalmellato y quería "garantizar el suministro a los ciudadanos". Una vez que la CHG ha conocido que la avería de Emacsa se ha resuelto, ha procedido a cortar el agua que proviene del canal del Guadalmellato, asegurándose antes de que la interrupción no afectará ni a ciudadanos ni a regantes. Desde mediodía el agua proveniente del canal está cortada aunque aún se puede apreciar circulando por las naves, ya que tardará unas horas en desaparecer.
Durante toda la mañana cinco bombas han estado sacando agua, que ha afectado a una pequeña parte del polígono, la zona próxima a la gasolinera y la que hay detrás del Mercadona. Las bombas de Emacsa han estado toda la noche extrayendo agua, que salía a borbotones. Los trabajadores de Magtel han estado en la zona de la gasolinera realizando las tareas de extracción.
Uno de los talleres del polígono lleva desde ayer sin actividad. Un trabajador de este taller, Javier Repullo, explicaba esta mañana que ha llamado al seguro, a Emacsa, a la CHG y al 112 y "no dan con la avería". Repullo afirma que "el agua sale por la pared y por el suelo y no podemos enchufar nada". Este trabajador asegura que en la zona del desguace de coches el agua ha llegado a alcanzar el metro y medio de altura.
Mezquita Decoración es otro de los establecimientos afectados, que permanece cerrado al público desde ayer. Rafael Garrido asegura que se están perdiendo "millones de litros de agua", ya que hay "cuatro caños" por los que no para de fluir. Además de ese negocio, Garrido, que ha estado toda la noche achicando agua, tiene otra nave inundada por esta avería y teme que, de persistir sin solución, afecte a la cimentación de las edificaciones.
De momento, fuentes de Emacsa aseguran que han comprobado sus instalaciones y que la avería no es de ellos, aunque están colaborando en la extracción del agua.
Translation - English A leak has caused flooding throughout several premises on the Chinales Industrial Estate in Córdoba. According to the Hydrographic Confederation of Guadalquivir (CHG),* it started in the Guadalmellato canal in the early hours of yesterday and a solution to fix it has not yet been found. Despite the fact that the leak has not yet been repaired, sources from CHG confirmed that technicians are investigating the incident. These same sources explained that CHG had not cut off the water supply because, due to another separate fault, the municipal water company Emacsa had been supplying the city’s water via the Guadalmellato canal and they wanted to be able to ‘guarantee supply to consumers’. Once CHG became aware that the other Emacsa fault had been resolved, however, they proceeded to cut off the water supply coming from the Guadalmellato canal, confirming before they did so that neither local inhabitants nor irrigation systems would be affected. Since midday, the water supply coming from the canal has been cut off, although flood water can still be seen flowing through buildings as it will be some hours before it completely soaks away.
Throughout the morning, five pumps have been removing water. This has affected a small area of the industrial estate, namely the part around the petrol station and the space behind Mercadona, a Spanish supermarket branch. These Emacsa pumps have been extracting gushing water all night. Workers from Magtel – a technology, infrastructure and development company - have been undertaking the task of water extraction in and around the petrol station.
One of the workshops on the industrial estate has been out of action since yesterday. Javier Repullo, an employee from this workshop, explained this morning that he had called the insurance company, Emacsa, CHG and 112 - the Spanish emergency services number – but the reponse he got was ‘we don’t deal with faults.’ Repullo stated that ‘water is still pouring out of the walls and floors and we can’t plug anything in’. He said that in the car scrapyard area, water levels had reached one and a half metres.
‘Mezquita Decoración’, a furniture shop, is another one of the affected premises and has been closed to the public since yesterday. Rafael Garrido claimed that ‘millions of litres of water’ are being lost because there are ‘four pipes’ that are continually flooding with water. Garrido has been pumping water away all night. In addition to the furniture shop business, he also owns other premises that have been flooded as a result of the leak and he is fearful that, if no solution is found soon, the buildings’ foundations could be affected.
To date, representatives from Emacsa have stated that they have checked their installations and that the fault is not down to them. They are, however, collaborating with the task of water extraction.

I have an MA in Specialised Translation from the University of Westminster (2019) and four years of commercial translation experience gained in the international wine trade, from both Spanish and French in to English (2005 -2009).
I worked as a Spanish > English interpreter in a medical centre in California for one year (2017 - 2018) and I have a Joint Honours Bachelors Degree in Spanish and French from the University of Bristol (1999).
I have worked in a range of Marketing, Communications and Brand Management roles over the last 15 years and my specialist translation areas are marketing, communications and business texts.
