Although my language of preference is Ukrainian, I am a
perfect example of a bilingual person: growing-up in a Russian-speaking
community, I finished a Russian school and even won prizes at Russian language contests,
but then I entered a Humanities department at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy –
perhaps, the best university to study liberal arts in Ukraine, where impeccable
Ukrainian was
a must. There I honed my skills as a linguist, mastering both
Ukrainian and English – two work languages at my university. Owing to the
quality of knowledge provided at my Alma Mater, I was lucky to win a scholarship
to attend the Summer School at Harvard University, MA, USA.

Having completed my studies (both BA and MA diplomas with honours), I worked first
as an editor for a publishing house, and then as a translator for a big Ukrainian
think-tank specializing in international relations as well as economic and
political forecasts. Later I was a team member of
a project financed by CIDA (Canadian
International Development Agency) and managed by the World Bank. This project
was primarily focused on promoting civil society development in Ukraine.

After 4.5 years in the non-government sector I switched to the corporate one and dedicated
last
15 years to translations meant mostly for marketing purposes, but also for
e-learning platforms.

Simultaneously, I cooperated with a publishing house specializing in non-fiction
literature and translated several history books for it.


Throughout my life I travelled, learnt different languages, and participated in
various smaller projects. I am curious and sympathetic, and those features
definitely impact my work as
a translator.
