English to Portuguese: Why You Should Learn How To Code - Subtitles Translation and Timing General field: Tech/Engineering Detailed field: Computers (general)
Source text - English 00:00:19.236 --> 00:00:22.316 align:center line:79%
In 2014, I was living
in São Paulo, Brazil.
00:00:23.156 --> 00:00:25.716 align:center line:79%
The country was obsessed
with the coming World Cup,
00:00:25.716 --> 00:00:26.716 align:center line:81%
and I was too.
00:00:27.276 --> 00:00:31.156 align:center line:79%
I absolutely had to get to
as many games as possible,
00:00:31.156 --> 00:00:32.356 align:center line:81%
but there was a problem.
00:00:32.596 --> 00:00:35.076 align:center line:79%
The only way to get tickets
was this horrible website
00:00:35.076 --> 00:00:37.836 align:center line:79%
that would release them at random times
throughout the day.
00:00:38.036 --> 00:00:39.916 align:center line:81%
I was working as a teacher at the time,
00:00:39.916 --> 00:00:42.356 align:center line:79%
and when somebody at work
would see tickets pop up,
00:00:42.356 --> 00:00:45.236 align:center line:79%
they’d run around the hallways
telling all the other teachers
00:00:45.236 --> 00:00:48.156 align:center line:79%
and we’d spend time of our lessons
abandon our students
00:00:48.156 --> 00:00:49.276 align:center line:81%
and try to buy tickets.
00:00:50.716 --> 00:00:52.716 align:center line:81%
I got really frustrated with this process.
00:00:53.036 --> 00:00:55.836 align:center line:79%
Nobody wants to spend their day
refreshing web pages,
00:00:10.579 --> 00:00:13.413 align:center line:79%
Vocês podem ter imaginado
um barco lotado em águas agitadas,
00:00:13.413 --> 00:00:15.579 align:center line:79%
pessoas agarradas ao topo
de um trem de carga,
00:00:15.579 --> 00:00:18.413 align:center line:79%
ou atravessando um deserto
usando sapatos desgastados.
00:00:18.413 --> 00:00:24.204 align:center line:79%
É o que vemos nos noticiários, 24 horas
por dia, diariamente, várias histórias:
00:00:24.204 --> 00:00:28.329 align:center line:79%
pessoas desesperadas, fugindo de guerras,
de mudanças climáticas, da pobreza.
00:00:29.121 --> 00:00:32.954 align:center line:79%
Mas na realidade, a maioria das pessoas
migram por motivos mais comuns:
00:00:33.037 --> 00:00:38.829 align:center line:79%
obter uma boa formação, encontrar emprego,
encontrar familiares ou se apaixonarem.
00:00:39.329 --> 00:00:42.371 align:center line:79%
E isso não é novidade.
Arqueólogos como eu,
00:00:42.371 --> 00:00:47.329 align:center line:79%
00:00:47.329 --> 00:00:49.412 align:center line:79%
as pessoas têm se movido
ao redor da Terra,
00:00:49.412 --> 00:00:52.996 align:center line:79%
desde os primeiros fazendeiros
na Europa até vikings, piratas,
00:00:52.996 --> 00:00:55.496 align:center line:79%
gladiadores romanos
e até mesmo Neandertais
00:00:55.787 --> 00:00:57.704 align:center line:81%
e pessoas como você e eu
00:00:58.246 --> 00:01:00.579 align:center line:79%
Mobilidade é uma das coisas
que nos torna humanos.
00:01:01.329 --> 00:01:02.329 align:center line:81%
Pessoas se movem.
00:01:03.079 --> 00:01:06.496 align:center line:79%
00:01:06.496 --> 00:01:09.621 align:center line:79%
Você carregam isso para muitos lugares:
para o trabalho, academia,
00:01:09.621 --> 00:01:11.413 align:center line:81%
para a cama e até no chuveiro.
00:01:11.413 --> 00:01:15.038 align:center line:79%
00:01:15.038 --> 00:01:16.038 align:center line:81%
São vocês.
00:01:16.288 --> 00:01:19.246 align:center line:81%

Source text - English The blue clouds covered the mountains from a distance while a thin layer of snow could be seen on the forest trail. The air felt cold and refreshing, smelling of pine and snow. It was a nice and comfortable scent, making it ideal for a slow walk.
Alighting from the bus, Jian Yao looked around until she spotted a stone path. Following the path for 10 minutes, Jian Yao saw the grayish green roof of a European styled cottage. Ever since she could remember things, she had always seen this cottage at the outskirt of the hillside.
Despite the fact that twenty years had passed, this cottage didn’t feel outdated at all even when compared to the modern infrastructure nowadays. This cottage had been left unoccupied for the past few years and there were even rumors that it was a haunted house.
Jian Yao had believed it when she was younger, since the house was always sitting alone amidst the darkness at the outskirt of the hillside. It was only when she got older that she learned the truth. It turned out the truth was just that the owner of the house had gone oversea with his son when his wife passed away.
However, the house that stood in front of Jian Yao now was different from her memory. This cottage was given a fresh coat of paint, and she could see the lights shining from inside, the weeds surrounding the cottage was also pulled out.

Source text - English An indigo car of foreign make pulled up in front of the store. Mr. Hong, who had just opened the cafe, stopped his mopping and watched as a man in a beige leather jacket stepped out of the car.
"Wouldja take a look at his fashion? And damn, that's a nice car."
He had just thought to himself that the man couldn't possibly have any business around here when the man looked toward the store. No, more like glared at the store. The man looked at the shoddy sign and the plastic rose-patterned curtains covering the windows and made a face as if he couldn't believe his eyes.
"What, too tacky for you?" Mr. Hong's efforts at scowling failed to give the effect of a mean eye. Time and age had pulled his eyelids down to the effect of a southern Mongoloid. Like a hush puppy.
"Stop gawking, will ya? Giving me the creeps. Shoo, shoo. I won't sell you no coffee, see if I do."

When I was 5, I got my first computer – well, my brother and I got our first computer – and in between all the fights to decide who was going to use it all the time, I started to discover technology. I also started learning English by myself through all the playing, creating, writing, and consuming of the world.
At 12, I enrolled in English classes, starting from basic lessons, even though I was already almost conversational, and my curiosity and love for languages evolved from there. I started with English, then tried Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, and even Latin, just to see how it was (sadly, I don’t speak any of these. Yet!).
At school, I graduated with a B.A. in Library Sciences, where I discovered potential skills for research, organization, and terminology. I also dabbled in Archival Sciences and later tried my hand at coding and web development. Today, I try new adventures after completing my post-graduation in English Translation, an area that came to me firstly as a curiosity and hobby, reigniting my passion for English, communication, and information accessibility.
You know what's cool? Consuming content.
What's even cooler? Doing it in a language that feels just right.
That’s my thing – breaking down language barriers and making content for everyone. So now, I use everything I've learned to be the best translator I can be, and I absolutely love it!
