Japanese to English: Zoonotic Diseases General field: Medical
Translation - English The path by which the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) came to be transmitted and spread to humans is still unclear. However, it is almost certain that the coronavirus was originally present in wild bats and passed through another intermediary animal host before finally reaching humans. These kinds of illnesses are called zoonoses, or zoonotic diseases. Many of those which are referred to as “emerging infectious diseases” are zoonotic diseases, such as severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS), Ebola virus disease, and bird flu, all of which have claimed the lives of many people in the past.
