Translation - English Citalopram and escitalopram (the S-enantiomer of citalopram) are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) with minimal effects on noradrenaline and dopamine. They have proven efficacy in the treatment of chronic depression, especially in elderly patients. These drugs are widely prescribed because they have few cardiovascular side-effects and present a low risk of overdose compared to tricyclic antidepressants. The adverse effects documented in the literature include serotonin syndrome, symptoms of mania or hypomania and the lesser-known hyponatraemia secondary to inappropriate arginine-vasopressin secretion (SIADH). This is well documented during treatment with citalopram, but only 4 cases have been described with escitalopram.

Years of experience: 23. Registered at ProZ.com: Apr 2004. Became a member: Oct 2008.
After working for some time as a part-time English teacher and in-house translator, I have now been translating full-time since 2006 on a freelance basis. Having studied Spanish at university and having lived and worked in Spain since 2000, I have gained an in-depth knowledge of both the language and culture of Spain, which I have been able to apply in a wide variety of fields. Despite living outside my native country, I make a great effort to keep up a high level of English, reading extensively and travelling to the UK on a regular basis. As well as trying to ensure terminological accuracy and a good written style in all my translations, I also believe that it is important to offer a professional, reliable service and to keep to deadlines. Since 2007 I have been specialising in the medical and pharmaceutical field. Please see my CV for details of my experience.
