Issue with invoice text formatting / spacing (Staff: checking...) Thread poster: Fredrik Pettersson

This is how it looks like:

No matter if I try to drag the text together first, and insert space again and press Enter (even though this works sometimes),

I spend a lot of extra time trying to get the spacing to look right on my invoices. Have tried all kinds of things, but nothing works. Mostly it ends up looking like I'm an idiot... Does NOT make a good impression on my clients.
Glad you asked, Fredrik. Hope someone can give us an answer. | | | Fredrik Pettersson Hong Kong Local time: 09:04 Member (2009) English to Swedish + ... TOPIC STARTER Some time it works, sometimes it doesn't | Jun 22, 2013 |
It's so convenient to use this invoicing system at ProZ, just very unfortunate this detail doesn't work. I sent a support request also, see if they can help us. Don't know if it could have anything to do with the settings for invoices, will have a look there also. Had the same problem again, seems to be most troubles before numbers, like now:

Here is another problem I just had:
Project What\'s new 1.9

Translation of 1 Word-document from English into
Swedish
I delete the backslash several times, but after saving it's still there. Perhaps it takes time to get the changes reflected in ProZ's server. Will have a look after a while again. | |

Yes, I have problems with them appearing too.... VERY annoying. If I remember correctly, I think it has something to do with apostrophes... Haven't kept up with my bookkeeping lately.
(Reminder to self: time to invoice clients...)

If it’s the apostrophes, try to see if using typographically well-formed apostrophes (like this: ’) will work better.
Unexplained backslashes before apostrophes suggests either sloppy programming or not-too-well configured servers :-/ | | | Fredrik Pettersson Hong Kong Local time: 09:04 Member (2009) English to Swedish + ... TOPIC STARTER Your apostrophe worked better | Jun 23, 2013 |

So, where does one find or how does one type a "typographically well-formed apostrophe"? I just use the ' key on my Mac keyboard. You mean I have to copy and paste your "typographically well-formed apostrophe" every time?

If it's programming, how do we get ProZ to do something about it? And would that be the answer also for the ridiculous and uncontrollable spacing/ separation within the invoices?
Do you have a work-around for that, by any chance?
If it's a not-too-well configured server... is there anything we can do about that?

On a Mac this is super easy. Just type Option-Shift-]

I’m afraid there’s not much we can do, except perhaps to complain. Perhaps if we all filed support requests for the same issues they might be persuaded to look at it. | | | Fredrik Pettersson Hong Kong Local time: 09:04 Member (2009) English to Swedish + ... That must be the best idea now Ambrose, if we all complain about these two issues:
The text being misplaced on different rows (the row breaks into two), especially before a number such as if you type 2011 (as in SDL Trados 2011).
The apostrophe being changed into a backslash.
I already filed my support request two days ago, so if you all do the same now perhaps they will get more attentive to this.

I've tried to find alternative solutions long ago, a separate invoicing software. But from what I remember now, there is not much to choose from only for invoicing, most are a part of a whole suite for bookkeeping and accounting. ▲ Collapse | | | Thanks for reporting this | Jun 24, 2013 |
