Bio
Mariana Ciocca Alves Passos is a Brazilian living in Ireland. She has a BA in Language and Literature awarded by University of Sao Paulo/Brazil, and she works as English to Portuguese (BR) translator since 2009. She is passionate about helping people and companies communicate their ideas.
She has translated texts in different areas, but mostly technical in mechanical and electronic devices, IT and Education (e-Learning).
She was part of the team that localized the e-learning portal Khan Academy in 2014.
Mariana is a TAUS Certified Post-Editor and is currently part of the team that post-edits entries for the Brazilian version of The Gospel Coalition portal. She has also worked with some app localization projects. Mariana's CAT tools of choice are memoQ (which processes files from other tools, including Trados) and Lilt, but she is easily adaptable to clients' tools as well.
Early 2018, Mariana has undertaken a course on subtitling, so now you can count on that service too. Later that year, she also started working as community interpreter, on site and over the phone, mostly for medical appointments and registration offices in Ireland. Mariana also translated the book The Best Day of Forever [O melhor dia da eternidade], by Jay McCarl, which was published via Amazon.
Since 2019, she is back working with Khan Academy, now proofreading and spotting computer-generating subtitles for their teaching videos (Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology).
Mariana also works as a community interpreter, helping Portuguese-speakers communicate with medical practitioners and social workers in Ireland, and in 2020 she has also done consecutive interpreting for a SafePass Course.
