On an ordinary Autumn Tuesday evening in 2010 something happened that changed Britain forever. Two and a half million viewers tuned into the first ever episode of The Great British Bake Off, a baking "talent" show on BBC Two. In 2016 the TV viewing figures for the show were over 15 million for some episodes. That's twenty-five percent of the population; watching a TV programme about cake!
Since that evening, life hasn't been the same. Although Britain has always been a nation of bakers, we have become a nation obsessed. We bake morning, noon and night. We bake for dinner parties, clubs and office competitions. Today, the British baking industry is worth £3.4 billion. We even have a week dedicated to baking: 'National Baking Week'.
As a result of Britain's baking boom, 'cake clubs' have been growing in popularity across the country. The concept is similar to a book club — except with cake. Members rendezvous regularly at local tea shops and cafes, where they show off their homemade cakes before digging in. These cake clubs are just one manifestation of a baking madness that's sweeping Britain.
If you want to join a cake club, there are two important rules. The first rule of cake club is: You ONLY talk about cake. The second rule of cake club is: Eat as many cakes as possib

④ The opening chapters walk the reader through the military history that brought Japan to China and explore the viewpoint of the Chinese military and their decision to order the protecting army to retreat, and finally reveal the observations of Western missionaries, professors and even a "Nazi hero" who were witnesses to the slaughter.
⑤ Chang ends the book with "The Forgotten Holocaust: A Second Rape," a section that squarely puts the blame of an academic cover-up for Nanking on Japan.
