In her case, I knew there was nothing I could do that was actually going to save her life. The cancer was too advanced. But I was committed to making sure that I could do anything possible to make her stay more comfortable. I brought her a warm blanket and a cup of a coffee. I brought some for her parents. But more importantly, see, I passed no judgment on her, because obviously she had done nothing to bring this on herself. So why was it that, just a few nights later, as I stood in that same E.R. and determined that my diabetic patient did indeed need an amputation, why did I hold her in such bitter contempt?

Source text - English This recommendation from Cuba was one the Chinese government implemented with great zeal. While seeking to exert an ever greater influence within the UN system, the Chinese government has continued to undermine that system by targeting human rights defenders upholding the rights set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the two subsequent Covenants on Civil and Political and Economic, Social and Cultural rights. Over the last four years human rights defenders in the country have had to face wave after wave of attack while the government developed and refined its tactics of oppression.
The most egregious of these attacks took place in 2011 when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) displayed its deep insecurity by rounding up, disappearing and torturing scores of HRDs in response to (barely heeded) calls for a 'Jasmine Revolution' to take place in China.
Translation - French Cette recommandation de Cuba est celle que le gouvernement chinois met en œuvre avec le plus de zèle. Tout en cherchant à exercer une influence de plus en plus grande au sein du système onusien, le gouvernement chinois continue à saper celui-ci en ciblant les défenseurs des droits humains qui font valoir les droits établis par la Déclaration universelle des droits de l'Homme et les deux Conventions sur les droits politiques, économiques, sociaux et culturels lui ayant fait suite. Ces quatre dernières années, les défenseurs des droits humains dans ce pays ont subi des vagues successives d'attaques tandis que le gouvernement a développé et affiné ses tactiques d'oppression.
