It is no accident that the words "text" and "textile" share a common root in Latin "texere", to weave. A text is a fabric woven from words; a translation is a recreation of that fabric in a different material - that of the target language - woven together in such a way as to reproduce the properties and effect of the original.
A fibre artist in my spare time, I love the challenge of weaving texts with words, analysing all the threads of the source text and creating an equivalent target text that not only transports the same meaning, but also has the same effect on the reader. I am very thorough and take pride in delivering work of the highest standard.
I hold an M.A. in Translation Studies from the University of Heidelberg and have several years' experience as a freelance translator. I have translated a wide range of texts, from non-fiction books down to food labels and product descriptions for clothing catalogues. I particularly enjoy the translation of marketing content.
Having worked as an in-house translator for a video-game localisation company for over a year, I also have a strong
background in translating web-based content.
I was born and raised in Germany, but I have lived in Ireland for much
of my adult life, while also spending time living in Italy and other European countries. Shifting between cultures and languages has become second nature to me.
My fields of interest include anything fibre-related, from fashion and textiles to crafts (especially knitting).
I am also passionate about food, nutrition and cooking. Like clothing, food is something that is fundamental to our well-being, but that has also given rise to an incredible wealth of culture as well as a host of social and environmental issues.
Aside from these basics of our daily lives, I am also fascinated by the forces that have shaped the world as we know it today. My B.A. in European Studies at Trinity College Dublin was focused on history and politics as well as languages, and the interest in these topics has stayed with me since.
