I am a native speaker of English, freelance proofreader/translator/interpreter (from French to English), and I teach high school French in the United States. Previously, I lived in Paris for 6 years while working and finishing graduate school.
While living in France, I became fluent in French and worked on various translation and interpreting projects including translating 19th century poetry in English to French, doing a short term project with Kodak involving marketing research with focus groups, doing contractual work for French company as a transcriber for the English-speaking team, and working in an administrative capacity for a legal consultant which involved a significant portion of proofreading and editing of a monthly column for readers and prospective clients.
As I worked in multiple settings including public education, business, technical, real estate, French Literature, to name a few, my experience has allowed me to gain knowledge about the terminology used in these fields.
As a proofreader, I was able to correct and improve the rendering of the source text. My preference and strength is translating and proofreading French to English, but I am perfectly comfortable proofreading English to French.
In my translation work, I have rendered texts from French to English with great accuracy and efficiency. It is also very easy for me to edit texts to appeal to a more English-speaking audience. If a sample is needed, I can produce one based on any text that you provide. Currently, I have taught French in both high school and middle school. I currently teach in New York City. I teach (and have taught), Levels I through Advanced Placement. My translation, interpreting, and proofreading experience extends over the five of the six years I lived in Paris. I have completed two Master’s degrees: one from Middlebury College in French Literature with a focus on Caribbean Literature and a second from the University of Paris in Literary Translation. During my five years at my current school, I have led two trips to France and Spain and have acted as interpreter as needed during the trip. I have also taken personal trips to France since my return to the U.S. in 2009 to maintain my language skills.
As I use my translation skills on a daily basis through my teaching, I have truly perfected my language skills. Due to the nature of the courses I teach, I have developed lessons in areas including but not excluded to Social Studies, Math, Art History, Literature, and History. It is quite often that colleagues, friends, and family come to me when they need someone to interpret or translate for them, for example when my sister visited me while I was in Paris.
As a professional, I am very efficient and have timely turnaround on projects. I have learned to adapt to the needs of my clients and your project will be no exception.
I am available at any time and am willing to work on any size project! I look forward to collaborating with you on any future projects!
