British Ambassador Bridget Brind visited the Governorate of Karak on Sunday 20 March to meet Governor Mohammad Fayez and see first-hand a UK funded project in the Governorate that supports teacher training and strengthens the education system. While visiting a primary school in Qasbet al Karak district, the Ambassador noted that the UK’s support to Jordanian public schools through the Early Grade Reading and Maths Programme (in partnership with USAID and MoE) that is also working on remedial learning, providing essential support to both Jordanian and refugee students with learning loss as a result of Covid19.
During the visit, Ambassador Brind said: “We recognise the pressure on Jordanian public schools to support both host and refugee children get back on track with learning after Covid19 school closures. Great to see how this programme is supporting teachers and very young children in schools with remedial support to improve their foundational skills (reading and maths).
Ambassador Brind also met with youth representatives and had the opportunity to hear the views and aspirations of the younger generation. She affirmed that the UK attaches great importance to the youth in building dynamic, resilient and peaceful societies. She also encouraged attendees to be empowered and engaged citizens, and productive members of society.
The ambassador continued her field visit at the Business Development Centre, a non-profit organisation dedicated to fostering sustainable socio-economic development through employability and entrepreneurship. The Ambassador spoke about her experience as the first British female Ambassador in Jordan and praised the resilience, creativity and the ambition of women entrepreneurs in Karak, who developed their businesses across the governorate.

زارت السفيرة البريطانية بريدجيت بريند محافظة الكرك يوم الأحد 20 آذار لتلتقي محافظ الكرك محمد الفايز، ولتطلع بنفسها على مشروع تموله المملكة المتحدة في المحافظة يدعم تدريب المعلمين ويعزز نظام التعليم. وأثناء زيارتها لمدرسة ابتدائية في لواء قصبة الكرك، أشارت السفيرة إلى دعم المملكة المتحدة للمدارس الحكومية الأردنية من خلال برنامج القراءة والحساب للصفوف المبكرة (بالشراكة مع الوكالة الأمريكية للتنمية الدولية ووزارة التعليم)، والذي يشمل أيضاً توفير التعليم العلاجي، وتقديم الدعم الأساسي لكل من الطلاب الأردنيين والطلاب اللاجئين الذين عانوا من الانقطاع عن التعلم جراء جائحة كوفيد 19.
خلال الزيارة، قالت السفيرة بريند: " نحن ندرك الضغط الواقع على المدارس الحكومية الأردنية لدعم كل من أطفال المجتمعات المضيفة والأطفال اللاجئين للحاق بركب التعلم وذلك بعد إغلاق المدارس بسبب جائحة كوفيد 19. من الرائع أن نرى كيف يدعم هذا البرنامج المعلمين والأطفال الصغار في المدارس من خلال توفير الدعم العلاجي لتحسين مهاراتهم الأساسية (في القراءة والحساب)."
كما التقت السفيرة بريند بممثلين عن فئة الشباب، وأُتيحت لها الفرصة للاستماع إلى آراء وتطلعات جيل الشباب. وأكدت أنّ المملكة المتحدة تولي أهمية كبيرة لفئة الشباب في بناء مجتمعات ديناميكية وسلمية وقادرة على الصمود. كما شجعت الحضور على أن يكونوا مواطنين متمكنين ومشاركين وأعضاء منتجين في المجتمع.
وواصلت السفيرة زيارتها الميدانية إلى مركز تطوير الأعمال، وهو منظمة غير ربحية تكرس عملها لتعزيز التنمية الاجتماعية-الاقتصادية المستدامة من خلال برامج التوظيف وريادة الأعمال. حيث تحدثت السفيرة عن تجربتها كأول سفيرة بريطانية لدى الأردن، وأشادت بصمود وإبداع وطموح رائدات الأعمال في الكرك، اللواتي عملن على تطوير أعمالهن في جميع أنحاء المحافظة.
