Help or teach others with what I have learned over the years
Bio
As a native
German speaker, a qualified linguist and secondary school teacher (Master’s
Degree in teacher training, Anglistics and Romance Studies at the University of
Augsburg) and being married to an Irishman, I have more than 11 years of experience
working in the language and linguistic sector. My internship at steppingstone (see https://global.steppingstone.ws/) kick-started my professional career as translator and proofreader. I am still in co-operation with Mark Stoner, the CEO of the mentioned translation agency.
On top of that, working as
a teacher, I have more than 7 years of translation and proofreading experience
in English, Spanish and German as well as 5 years’ full-time teaching
experience (organising English and Spanish lessons as well as German as a
foreign language for students of all cultural backgrounds and age groups at
secondary schools and further education colleges).
I also provide
editing services as well as administrative help for migrants or other people
trying to move to an English or German speaking country. It can be quite
overwhelming to face the bureaucratic difficulties when you don’t speak the
national language.
In general,
though, my specialised subject areas are teaching & education, travel &
tourism, hospitality, food & beverages, music, arts and literature. My
talent lies in the ability to provide flowing English, Spanish and German texts
translating the actual message rather than translating literally. Cultural
differences are the key to understand people worldwide. With my work, I’d like
to connect people through language and across language and linguistic barriers.
Helping out
my husband opening up his own Irish Pub in a suburb of Augsburg, Germany in
2015, translating content in the food & beverage sector as well as
hospitality, media, marketing, bookkeeping and guest relations have been my
main focus.
Since 2020
I work as a freelancer and offer my translation services mainly to private
clients.I can use SDL Trados proficiently along with other common translation tools, but I always try to give the translation a personal note as most content cannot be translated solely by using translation software if you want your result to be profesionnaly localized and adapted to the individual context.
I support
clients in person as well as online, so I am available 7 days a week with no
extra charge for weekend work.
