I always loved the German language. It began in high school with the eccentric Mr. Steinberg. I studied chemical engineering in college, spending my junior year in Stuttgart, Germany as an exchange student. My engineering career started at the tail end of the nuclear industry in the 80's. Then came a stint in Death Valley, CA. You'd be amazed at what can be extracted from all that lake brine. We made Borax like in the old days (without the 20-mule teams). I became a single dad in the 90's. This was the beginning of my translation career. No romantic story here. Necessity is the mother of invention and 16-hour days manufacturing automobile airbags was too much for me so I gave translation a try. It worked out well, with my translation certification and engineering degree from my alma mater. My son didn't need day care and I didn't have a boss! Now I am a permanent translator. For better or worse, I love the independence and the challenge of technical and patent translations. I am destined to finish out my career this way. I have a lot left to learn. So onward and upward! |
