Spanish to English: Agribusiness expansion in Latin America General field: Other Detailed field: Environment & Ecology
Translation - English The agribusiness expansion in Latin America is characterised by a certain uniformity in the scenery and the food that, in particular, the urban poor have access to; simplification in the way of thinking and handling agriculture; concentration of power over land, production inputs and the labour force; and the commodification of nature. This process entails environmental, social and economic costs which are paid particularly by displaced persons from areas contaminated by the use of pesticides, and by all those who do not have a guaranteed right to water, health or education, while the State invests in low-cost direct finance and infrastructure work for agribusinesses.
